I just bought a '90 318Is. I had one 15 years ago, when they were rather new ones. Since then i have involved Porsche 944 Turbos. Have own one almost ten years. I bought this IS mainly because it has MTech II body kit, which i used to have 15 years ago. The colour is also the same Brilliant Rot like my old car used to have. so i am takeing a time travel back to early '90's
I first plannd just to take body kit from this car and but it to a 325 i also bought.... But this 318IS is in much better condition, so i sold 325. Since i have a lot of Porsche 944 Turbo parts around i plan to get M42 turboed. I am going to use original Motronic with tailored chip. Also 944 Turbos engines wiringharness will be install to M42 with Motronic DME & KLR boxes. KLR box handles the boost and knock. I am not going to use original air flow meter, i use AFM Link box with MAP sensor. I am going to use M42 Motronic, because 944 Turbo has only two hall sensors loacted on the flywheels and does not have a similar set up like M42 has. There will also be low CR pistons and more cubic cm's; i will convert it to 2.1 L. The turbo will be KKK 27/8, with modified Holset inserts. Inter cooler will be a modifed Porsche 944 Turbo unit. With similar modifications i tooked 368 hp from 2,5 liter 944 turbo engine with 1,2 bar boost. I am currently in the middle of building a 3 liter engine with bigger turbo to my 944 Turbo, so i have a lot of parts available for M42 turbo project. The plan is to keep this as simple as possible, so most likely i will only take about 250 hp from M42 engine. I am going to use VEMS standalone system with my 944 turbo, so if the results are good enough, i will also adopt it to my 318IS.
That modifed oil filler cap looks nice. Do you thing it's possible to produce more of them? Since i am also living in europe, EU area, wreight & customs won't be any issue.
