Almost ready to test MAF conversion...[PICS too]
« Reply #30 on: April 01, 2006, 12:59:18 AM »
My father has a bunch of memory modules back home, I am gonna go mess with them there on my way to buy more parallel ADC's.  I should onyl have to program it once as I have all the equivalence tables worked out.  Granted, the WBO2 will have the final say, but the simple EPROMS he has will work for the moment.

Basically, all i need is 256 bytes of space, and to operate at 50Hz lol.  Now, I will run at more like 50kHz because I can, but it is a simple application.  Nobody rip off my idea or i will eat your first born!

Aren't electronics FUN?

An Atmel AT28BV64 (<$3) is also a very easy way to do this project.  You just need a programmer to stuff the data from the PC.

You guys are way beyond my navy electronics training here, I'm with all the other Liberal arts/business majors on this one.  Hopefully this works out well enough to get you a good grade.  If not, the rest of us can vouch for the effort that's obviously gone into this!

OK, BIG UPDATE.

I got the prototype circuit working.  Zoso, I used a M27C256B-15F1 EPROM to store the values, put it in Read/Output mode, and hooked the ADC right to the Address pins.  Waaay simpler & faster than the BS2, and its only $3.11.  I am going to hook up both sensors to my 'flow bench' this weekend to verify that the outputs are what they need to be, then test it on the 318.  I was getting really pissed off yesterday.  I thought the ADC/DAC/both had died or something.  Turns out I had the 150pF capacitor on the wrong pin fo rthe ADC timing circuit lol.  There were 2 pins, and I had it backwards (friggin ckt diagrams are such a PITA to follow sometimes).

Yay, looks like the M42 will get a MAF real soon!

Nice work man!

Out of curiousity, what type of programmer did you use?  Do you have a UV light?

BTW, those chips sell for $1.53 on digikey :D

Yeah, got a UV eraser & ISA-port-based programmer on a 66mHz Cyrix 80486 back home lol.  I guess keeping it was a good idea afterall.  The prices ranged from $1.53 to whatever...the one I use was like $3 on DK.  They were 'free'...we already had them laying around from like 1993 lol.

Lol!

Well, all I am waiting on now is my project partner to finish working on the fitment of the MAF.  It will be fittable to the stock air box, as that is the easiest way, and a heck of a lot cheaper than trying to make a support bracket & heat shield, AND buy a conical filter.  Honestly, from my experience, the best performance comes from the stock air box anyway.  The open element filter I ran on the last car just let more noise out.

One Simple Question for you MAF wizards- Is the m44 MAF of any advantage for a project like this?
