It's annoying but now and then you need a specialized tool to help you fix up your 318 - maybe it's a cam alignment tool or maybe it's a specialized puller for rear subframe mount bushings.

Along with a lot of M42 expertise, the great people on this forum are very generous and usually have no problems loaning specialized tools to other E30 owners.  

Use this thread to request specialized tool.  The easier you make it for the sender to ship you the tool, the best change you have of getting it.  Try to send him a prepaid shipping label or a label that charges your account.  If not, you can always paypal him some funds.

I'll rent it for $5 per use and you pay shipping both ways.  It's worked well for me and a few others already.  You lose or break it and you replace it for me.  Sound like a deal?

Is this the tool that locks both camshafts while pulling the head off the block?  I'm looking at starting this proceedure this weekend.  I guess I need this and the flywheel locking pin.  I can paypal the costs including shipping to you right away if possible.  Please let me know.  Thanks.

Yes, this keeps the cams aligned at TDC.

I'm sorry I didn't check the board until today, so might have missed a shipping window.  I can put it in priority mail either today or Tuesday (today if my post office is open).

Hoping to borrow an M42 TDC tool, for locking a camshaft at TDC, as I will be pulling the head off my M42 and replacing it.

Does anyone have one?

I am, of course, willing to pay for the use of the tool --- the tool comes in at $45 shipped, on Ebay, so savings won't be HUGE... but no need to buy a tool that I'll probably never use again, if I can avoid it.

The tool I have keeps intake and exhaust cams set together while you do what you need (timing chain, head gasket, whatever).  $5 per use and you pay shipping both ways (works out to a total for you of like $15 or so).  PM me for more details.

Can some one take excact measures of the camshaft locking tool. I would be nice to fabricate one by myself.

Just hope the small ends of the old bushings don't break off in the body or you will still probably have to drop the subframe.

Does anyone in the CA Bay Area have a random-orbital polisher I can borrow for a day?  My paint is getting really, REALLY shabby and I don't feel like doing the full 3-step polish job by hand again lol.  A 6-pack or some other form of payment can be arranged for letting me borrow it.  Thanks!

I "made" a subframe installing tool.  Removing them is easy with the subframe out.  Just use a sawsall.
