need Help! ac promblem!

i have a e30 91 318i with m42, just buy a e36 m42 compressor brackect.
and dont know if it will fit right  @.@....???
can someone help?   and im not sure i even buy the right compressor, even thought  the compressor came off  a e30 ,with the v belt pully :confused:

No way that'll fit on the e30 setup. My compressor is bolted to the block...the belt is tensioned by an idler pulley.

There were many different types of compressor on the M42 over it's lifespan.  There are also three versions of A/C drive.

Post a WTB ad & see who has the goodies...I'm sure you'd get a bite off that.  R3v is a good place for that too - lots of e30 guys are pulling M42's.  You'd get a great deal from me if I was doing that.

Out of curiosity, once you have replaced the compressor how are you going to evacuate and recharge the system with refrigerant?

It's not hard to do an upgrade to r134...just a bit pricey.  I've been considering it myself.  A new expansion valve, receiver/drier, 1KG R134 and o-rings end up being about $100.

Alternatively, a little DuraCool, RedTek or EnviroSafe might do the trick.

^It's much easier to recharge with r414b than to go 134a. It is an r12 drop in that is 100% compatible with r12 compressor oil and runs similar pressures. Stock e30 condensers are also undersized for 134a so you'll be running much higher head pressure than normal, which yields shitty hot weather performance and reduces the life of your compressor.
