i'm thinking of selling..
« on: August 05, 2011, 03:38:43 PM »
but i have no clue how much to ask to be honest.
maybe because i'm a bit hesitant but have no stable income right now to keep it going.
definitely a project.

it's a brilliant rot 318is m42. prod date 02/1990

mostly bad stuff
-cracked head (fizzes out coolant from spark plug socket)
-haven't done a compression test
-worn out suspension (cabs, shocks, springs)
-no PS. (took the pump out because i like it that way, have it still)
-no AC (needs recharge)
-speedometer not working
-3 small cracks on the windshield (from highway debris)
-mcguyver-ed throttle cable
-worn sprockets
-def wont pass smog in it's current condition.
-the head lights are kind of pushed in (support issue?)
-replaced the pass fender because the old want had nasty bondo on it.
-scuffed out weaves
-faded paint
-cracked dash
-cracked black sport seats (ripped driver side seat, part where you sit on)
-tan rear bench (tan was original interior)
-door panels are matte black (rustoleum painted)
-manual sunroof
-dinged up hood (like it's wavy)
-bald tires
-salvage title

some good stuff about it
-no rust (original owners were in california)
-new fuel pump
-new fuel pressure regulator
-new fuel filter
-new belts
-new aux fan
-replaced timing chain tensioner
-replaced voltage regulator on alternator
-new thermostat
-re-manufactured afm
-no oil in coolant and vice versa
-new front rotors and pads
-new heater core
-euro grilles and clock (lol)
-it's an E30

i'll post photos later on if need be.
or somebody could just look at my sig. :D

worn sprockets

before and after pistons and head gasket. after i replaced the head gasket prior to the head cracked. or maybe it was already cracked.

left side of trunk is waxed. right side is unwaxed.

black sport seats

diy door panels and door pulls.

kinda hard to tell the hood problem but the headlamps..

old photo, only difference is.. it's less dusty. lol

Honestly you will get more money parting the car. You asked for my opinion but I would not pay more than 500 bucks for it. Just way to many problems. Would be the perfect car for a s52 swap however. And thats how I would try to sell it.
Also the car has a salvaged title which means the car was in an accident and may or may not have alignment issues which means getting replacement exterior parts for it will be a pain.

i figured it wouldn't amount to such being in that condition. that's also what somebody said at e30tech. lol parts car. but i've never sold a car nor parted so... i'll probably just end up keeping it. maybe rebuilding the engine if the block is still good. if not, just save up for a swap.

just trying to weigh my options. thanks for your opinion!

You do have a picture of the trunk lid, and the paint looks good. I know that paint in pictures will make the worst paint job look great, but I just have a feeling, that the car was rear ended, and they resprayed the back and they did it right. Tell me if I am wrong.

If you want my 2nd opinion I would keep the car as a parts car for your self. Go out, and find anouther e30 with the same color paint job. Trust me, when some one hits you in the back, you can claim the bumper and get a good 600 or more bucks for it, then take it from your parts car, and you just pocket 600 dollars.

No this is not against the law. A car backed into me and the police deamed it her fault sense she did say she did not see me. I got a quote, and sent it to my adjuster from her insurrance company and he changed a new part for a used part, but upped the amount of labor, and paint. It ended up saving them about 47 cents. The told me I that I can choose to get it fixed, or find a used bumper. I can take a cheaper route if I wish to do so.

the title being salvage is really just sketchy. i was actually thinking the original owner or second, crashed into something. if you look at the headlamps, they're a bit pushed in. and the passenger side fender had a fist size chunk of lousy bondo work. :|

i'll just keep the car since i may have found some heads locally. :D

Excellent.  I agree...I'd repair the car & keep her myself.  Selling anything with a salvage title is a problem, though old cars like these get totaled with mostly any accident.

the 318 I just bought was considered totaled bc of the hail damage which was minor but also included replacement of front windshield.

Personally, I would keep it. Fix what is broken a little at a time then simply drive it 'til the wheels fall off.
