Hey, i just bought a 91 318i about three months ago, my first goal with this car was suspension. Done.
Now im working on engine performance... i just want to know what yall are running on your cars (exhaust) or what is good for a daily driver, but also sounds great.
thanks

Honestly, for a daily driver the stock or near stock replacement exhaust is just fine.  It does not attract much attention, and is sufficiently loud at high RPM.  I can say this safely after going from a 2.5" straight through gutted cat single baffle tiny box muffler system back to essentially stock.  All that I had the shop do was replace the cat (with a smallish "race" cat that I had), add a 16" used resonator, and a used, but in good shape, muffler off of some random car.  To me the quiet of a near stock exhaust is well worth the loss of being able to sound like a Cobra at idle and a race car at high RPM. It also doesn't hurt that I can hear the radio again.

Thanks man, yea the stock exhaust still sounds good at high rpms.  i would like more of a deeper sound overall. but thanks for the input.

i went with a magna flow 20 inch muffler and my shop welded some nice looking tips that resembled the newer M3 tips they even had them offset which looks cool and put a 16 inch resonator but to have the side that would only catch the higher pitches and let thru the lower pitch new piping from the cat back and now my exhaust is more free flowing throaty and quiet and makes a nice growl when i slam on the gas like the newer M3's and i love it and only spent bout 350 for everything

I cut off the stock muffler and welded a dynomax muffler in its place. Cant remember the size, but its the shorter one. There is extra room down there now so I wish I would have got one a few inches longer.

Its a little loud, but not that bad. A magnaflow muffler like mentioned above has a nice sound too.

I am very happy with my Super Sprint cat back. Just the right amount of agressive quiet.

see what i have learned from my exhaust guy that the shorter the muffle the louder the car is so if you stay with the same size as oem or an inch longer you still keep performance and has a quiet cruising noise... when i cruise on the streets its so quiet but when i take it to the mountains it growls like a beast thru the turns.... my old exhaust was a cheap ebay one and it was short and loud and annoying and before that was a round single tip magnaflow xl and that one was just a temp but didnt like it much which i still have and would sell for $50 i think i paid like 150 for it so its just sitting in my closet
