Check the breaker on the center console.  Might be popped or even burned out.

Might still be bad.   I'd carefully short the two wires together with a bit of wire to double check or run a continuity test with your trusty digital multi-meter.

If it's not that, might be fuse 17 too, from what I've been told in the BMW ETM.

I'd also double check the positive block on the firewall (where the +  starter lead wire comes out of) to be sure a wire isn't loose or broken.  Maybe R&R'ing the starter bumped something?

nvm dave i finally got it. it was the green.black wire on the starter that was in a wrong place. and it has to be grounded for it to work. now i just have to find a place to ground it for it too work.

The block is grounded...starter grounds via the block...no need to ground the starter.  Check the braid off the driver's side of the motor.

That black/gn is supposed to cut the unloader relays (K5 & K7) to kill the other systems & save battery for the starter according to the ETM.  The ignition switch completes the circuit.

You should have three wires off the starter; black from the + junction block to terminal 30, blk/grn to terminal 30b (to the relay box), and blk/yellow from term 50 (from the ignition switch).

Do you have the E30 ETM?  It'll save you a lot of frustration...

whats a E30 ETM? sorry for the noobieness. i got a starter from kragen and its different then the bosch one. the bolt on my new starter (where its connected to the braid) is too large in diameter and it will not fit so either in going to make the whole bigger or relocate it.

Electrical Troubleshooting Manual.  A searchable PDF version is about half-way down the page, the "1991 e30 M42 Electrical Troubleshooting" link.  Every wire in the car is there, listed by color, broken down by circuit and subsystem.  Every connector and ground location is numbered & listed.  Excellent for all those little head-scratching problems.
