M42 Fuel Requirements?
« on: February 28, 2011, 07:25:12 AM »
What are the M42's fuel pump needs (lph/gph and psi/bar)?

I am trying to select an external electric fuel pump. My M42 is going into a `67 1600 and the E30 318is in-tank pump fits, but is too short to pick up all the fuel in the tank.

Thanks in advance!

just modify the hanger and make it longer? find a good piece of injection hose that can be submerged into fuel (to replace the " orange box"), add the length you need to the hanger, add a collar to hold the pump in position and you,re basicly done

IMHO walbro 392 is the best choice, except Bosch 044 ;)

Even if I can modify the pick-up, the fuel gauge won't be accurate.

It's in-tank, mounting in the same fashion as the 318is pump. 1600's and 2002's use a mechanical fuel pump, so it's just the sender in the tank.

The E30 318is fuel pump works great for the conversion and drops right in; the problem is that the E30 pumps and senders are about an inch too short for the 2002/1600 fuel tank, leaving a gallon or two of unusable fuel in the tank.

If you lower the pump, youll just have a 2 gal "reserve" ,, or I've lengthened the arm for the gauge before to change its range... You might check out a 318ti sender, its got 2 because the tank straddles the drive line...
