Welcome, grasshopper. Sounds like you got a great deal. The e36 is twice the car that the e30 is, as there is twice as much to break.

Just kidding (mostly). You'll learn a lot on here. The car will demand it from you. I'm on the other side of PA, but my lil' red e30 spends a lot of time in Allentown, Carbondale, Scranton, Lancaster and eastern PA towns.
First off, I'd do a stomp test to get some codes.
Secondly, the early e36 had some trouble with flooded computers, so check the drain in the passenger firewall to be sure it's not plugged. Google "wet DME" for the horror stories you'll be avoiding.
Third, make sure the ignition lock is in good shape and that the EWS antenna loop (round the key lock) stays put right there. Otherwise the car won't start.
Finally, I'd also replace a few components just to make sure they don't fail. The three primary relays (main, O2 and fuel pump) are fairly cheap at Pelican Parts, BMA, etc. Keep the current relays as spares. Also be sure to use the link at the top right, helps pay the bills 'round here.
