E36 Oil Pan on E30 M42
« on: October 02, 2010, 08:44:11 PM »
I'm trying to clarify what all it takes to put an E36 oil pan on an E30 M42. All I need to change is the oil pump pickup and the pan, correct? The E36 pan is once piece as well, right?

Thanks.

The E36 oil pan will not clear the crossmember supporting the engine. to fit an E36 M42 into an E30, you have to switch your E30 pans to the E36 engine.

The engine is going in my MG, not an e30. :) The crossmember in the MG is far forward, so I will need the rear sump pan, but the engine I have is from an e30. I just need to know what all I need to switch to an e36 pan.

That should be pretty awesome in the MG!

I don't know for sure, but I think all you would need is the different pickup for the rear sump. If you go to http://www.realoem.com and look at the e36 M42 versus the e30 M42 you should be able to find all the parts you need with the correct part numbers.

Yeah, I already looked and it seems to be all I need, just wanted to clarify. I've seen it talked about here before, but when I search "e36 oil pan" I get nothing.

you dont' need anything other than the E36 oil pan, the oil pick-up line is built in.. probably just need a replacement rubber gasket...
