I think most of us have seen the pulse chamber intake manifold that Metric Mechanic sells:

I came across these pics of a 2002 intake manifold and it looks familiar (same principle on the headers, too).

Anyway, this was just something that I found interesting.

That looks nice....

Never seen that on the M10 before...I have seen MM's pulse chambers though ;)

Interesting.  Never seen the concept applied to exhaust headers.  (That's my M42B18 engine you've posted there...)  ;-)

I hadn't seen headers like those either.
Hope it's ok that I stole your pic :)
Do you think the 15% increase in torque claim is accurate?

Jim told me he used to put these on his intakes and headers when he built race engines for circle track guys in KC.  Biggest problem he had was that it smoothed the power flow so much the drivers couldn't feel the red line and kept blowing up engines.

Considering how Sam's engine felt on the top end, I'd believe it, I have no idea on actual numbers but the engine definitely didn't feel like it wasn't going to stop pulling.

The engine wanting to keep pulling is more about the cam: duration, lift and timing. That is not the only thing but it is one of the major culprits. You could also over port your head. You can have all the pulling power up top and fall on your face down low. I bet Jim's motors have nothing to talk about below 4500rpm, all things considered that it's a stroker motor, and should make gobs of torque across the board and not just in the mid to upper range.  We all know it's the Torque that makes you feel the pull and not the Horsepower. HP numbers means nothing without the TQ.

Circle tracks are also a lot different from street driving as is road course driving. If you always want to use a gear lower than usual to stay above 4500rpm and keep it in the power band....well then there might be a bit more wear on the engine etc.

I have to say that they do look cool as hell and would definitely have tested this theory myself if I hadn't picked up a set of Dbilas ITB's.

Cheers,
~Ralph

LOL, I guess having shift lights was too advanced an idea for the circle track guys ;)

is that a noticable increase in midrange power? or do you think its overkill for a daily driver? im in the process of rebuilding my m42 and im searching all over the forums for ideas. also it looks like something that could be easily fabricated.. right? i have a buddy that works at a fab shop and i figure he could hook it up for me. im not trying to spend 5g's rebuilding this bad boy

There was a decent increase.  Daily driving was perfectly fine.

I no longer have the unit on my car (other projects :D ), so I may be looking to sell my MM Pulse Chamber Manifold and my BBTB (an increase of 3mm) which was done by Alpina527 in the UK.

I'm interested in using this on my project engine, but i want to mount ITBs on the lower part of the intake. I suppose this will still work for me though, or not?

Also how do you guys think would adding Injectors in the pulse chambers for high RPM use work?
