I guess it was time to replace my rear shock top mounts ... looking at the wear.. they might be 20 years old :D

And they are replaced by these items from https://www.facebook.com/IndividualRacingParts?fref=ts

let's see if my adjustable koni's will work again :D

Time to rebuild her!

I've added the gold tape save the rest of the car a bit from radiation heat.. or so i hope :P ... applying 10mtr took over 1,5hours ...

The car will remain white, with some orange parts (front lip, mirrors, wing endplates and door sills)

First thing i did after receiving the car was mounting the taillights.. makes it so more finished.. never mind that i still need to build everything else :D
Oh and i love the STW rear wing :P

Im glad to see this thread progress, and that you stuck with the m42 instead of the m3!  8)

Thanks!
in my opinion the combination of costs of the S50/S52 engine and its weight and to much forward weight doesn't make it interesting imo. (mostly the money -or lack thereof- keeps me for going high power.

This weekend i fitted the engine back in (still needs fixxing to the gearbox, need new bolts) and general remounting stuff (intake, injectors etc)

Also test fitted the fiberglass fenders... which need some trimming to make it fit nice(er).
Next week my fiberglass doors arrive so i can fiddle more with filler and other nasty fiberglass stuff :D
When i've mounted the doors and lexan windows i should weight her.. curious how close to 1000kg i've made it!

after the fiberglass work starts a real puzzle... remaking the wiring loom... yeeeh..

Hi

Nice it looks ready to drive!   ::)

That bonnet you have there, never seen one like that.
What is it off, custom?

Thanks Rohan

Hardy, engine still needs to be set-up (intake, fuel system etc).. and then the all the joys of a motorsport loom :)

This is the type bonnet: http://www.jdmbits.com/2010/06/bmw-e36-vented-carbon-hood.html
not sure who sells it in the states.
I've gutted the internal structure, stock hood is 15kg, stock carbon/poly is 9kg.. mine is 5kg now.

time for an long overdue update.
The car is rolling under it's own power.. sort of.. clutch doesn't work (replaced the slave cilinder but now the pedal has no resistance and doesn't engage gear) and i need to do a huge amount of small niggles before i can go to the track.. anyway here's some pics of her after running around the block in 1st gear.

doors and windows still needs taken car of.. then most of the exterior is done!

Me look at it :)

and since the beginning of August i got a proper vehicle to tow here to the track.. an V70 R AWD, build in 10/1999 so it means it is one of 400 build.. and 265bhp to play with it.. now it's hiding in the background.. its on M42club afterall  8)

again nearly a year later...
i'm nearing completion of the build.. last weekend finished up de driver side door :)

Things to do:
finish passenger door (fix locking mechanism)
clean up wiring
mount rear quarter windows
fix brake lights switch (just the wiring)
make a proper killswitch braket

and most importantly: go testing!

goal is to go testing/shakedown on the 2nd of july at an auto-x event... but it still needs a lot of work :s

we had some sunny (33'C!) weather last weekend, so i took some time to work on the M42 :)

things to do:
- eliminate ignition key / add start engine button;
- wire up brake lights;
- wire up indicator/hazard lights;
- fabricate STW style cold air intake;
- fabricate radiator hot air exit duct;
- add rollbar padding;
- cleanup wiring;
- close holes in the firewall;

because of the high temps, i moved the car a bit.. so the wind was blowing trough it.. hence the open doors :)
