alternator belt

My alternator belt was squealing because it was loose . My adjustment had run out and I couldn't get it any tighter.I thought it had stretched but when I installed a new belt I just about ran out of adjustment on it. Has anyone else run into this issue?

What I would check is to make sure the new belt you put on is actually the specified oe length.
When I replaced belts on my M42 I did not have any problems with length.

there should be two tighting bolts atleast there is on mine
try lowering the water pump too, then move the alternator over as far as it can go
both the water pump and alternator should swivel
