My Dad had a '74 2002 that he bought new, a red 4-speed with A/C.  If it hadn't rusted out we'd likely still have it.  The salesman just tossed the keys to him and said "Take it out for the afternoon.  It'll sell itself."  Absolutely did.  He always insisted that car was the most fun to drive out of all the cars he'd owned.

1969 Triumph GT6+. I must be a glutton for punishment, because I later bought a 1970 TR6 and then a 1975 TR6. Luckily I didn't own them all at the same time.

First car I ever owned myself was a 67 Mustang, 289 three speed.  I got it shortly before I went into the marines and then sold it right before I left for bootcamp.  Should have never done that.

1985 Pontiac Fiero - $850. Within a year it needed a new clutch disk, pressure plate, master and slave. Then it cracked a it's head due to the crap cooling system. All told, it actually handled well and achieved acceptable fuel mileage.....when it would run. My car lead a pretty rough life before I got it, so I can't really blame GM too much. Of course, my severely limited mechanical prowess as a teenager didn't help either.

Imagine this car with much more oxidation on the paint:

The next car was a 1986 Mazda RX-7. Also having been beaten pretty well before I took ownership, I went through two transmissions in a year and a half because those things apparently need a witches' brew of transmission fluid and a blessing from Baron Samedi to not grind themselves into oblivion. Someone in a Suburban wasn't paying attention and clipped the rear end, which prompted me to finally cut my losses.

Mine looked a eerily similar to this one:

Then, I saw the light. A woman that I worked with mentioned that she and her husband had one too many older cars and needed to sell one. They actually cried when they signed the title over to what became my first real love: a Sahara 1969 BMW 1600-2. I didn't own a digital camera in 2000 when I bought it, but it looked almost exactly like this one:

She wore original paint and had just 142,000 miles on her when I bought her. hence, my education and obsession began.

She lasted five years until the wrong set of circumstances put her nose into the rear end of a Cadillac. I later bought a "restored" 1970 2002 that turned out to be a scam, then a mostly original but rusty underneath 1976 2002 that both met their end due to traffic accidents (only one was my fault!). About a year and a half ago, I finally got back into a 1600. My current car is a 1967 1600 with a newly installed M42 and five speed. I'm still working the kinks out, but it's a blast to own and drive.
