I put some in the back of my car in September.  You have to take it to a stereo shop.  The speaker holes have to be cut out into the rear dash and some the metal in the rear dash has to be cut out in order for them to fit.  It cost me $100.00 to have it done, but it was worth it in the long run and it sounds so much better now.

heres mine.  I just brought the speaker surround up with MDF, cut the speaker holes and anchered it inplace.  you have to check the measurements to make sure theres enough room with this approach.  Crutchfield has pretty good measurements of what size the speakers are.  After all that just use some foam to shape it and some fabric.  pretty simple but time consuming.

This will give you better (ie: louder) "sound" but it will all be coming from the rear and not be a sound quality way to go.  Rear speaker are supposed to be for fill only.  These will completely over power the fronts.

That's funny because I prefer most of my sound coming from the back with just enough fade to put me right behind the lead singer but in front of the drummer like I'm on stage with the band.

I do get what you are saying about overpowering though. Right now I have some Pioneer 5 1/4" 2 way or 3 ways(can't remember) in the rear deck and factory front speakers and I can't hear the factory speakers at all unless I fade it too far to sound good. I'm hoping the BMW premium sound tweeter pods and mids will really liven it up up front.

They will help... I am an audiophile so I had to go a step further.  Did a component setup using the factory locations and put a 4 channel on all the interiors.  I have the fade on the deck all the way to the front and the gains on the 4ch so that the rears are at ~10% and the fronts are around 30%.  This gives me just a tiny bit of rear fill and makes the cabin sound very nice with the single sub I run.

Problem is now the staging... because the speakers are aimed at our feet basically.  It's the curse of the e30.  There are ways around it, but they are time consuming.
