Where is this oil coming from?
« on: November 02, 2009, 08:38:10 PM »
Bad pic, sorry.  I have some oil accumulating in a small indentation in the block just behind/under the oil pressure sensor on the filter housing.

Is it most likely the housing gasket or O-ring (#8 or 9 below) or something more serious?

Mine did the same thing to until I changed the pressure sending unit seal with a copper crush seal. It don't leak anymore

Did you get a whole new pressure sending unit or just the seal?  Can you get the seal separately?

Thanks!!

the oil is more than likely coming through the connector end of the sensor, you need to replace the sensor itself

Dumb question.....since the filter housing is so high up on the engine, does the oil need to be drained to replace those?

I just changed my oil a couple weeks ago and I hate to throw away perfectly good oil :D

If you let the car sit overnight, most of the oil will be in the pan. You will still loose some oil but should be less than a quart.

Well, got everything buttoned back up.  Turns out there wasn't even an O-ring above the gasket (#8 in the realoem pic) and there also isn't an o-ring between the block and the dipstick tube.  Hopefully replacing those will take care of all my oil leak issues.
