How was no oil getting to your crankshaft bearings?
Is this a picture of main bearing or conrod bearing?

The pictures where from the conrod bearings. Problems always surface before a race weekend this time the spark plug wires were to blame >:(
While is was driving home on 3 cylinders al i could think of is COP plate got to fit a COP plate, so i did :P
I don't know the person that made the drawing but thanks!



Wiring is different because i made a new wiring loom. My wires are longer so i had plenty of room to root it around the strut.



I also changed the AFM mounting. The thing i hade made previously wasn't really that great. So i welded it to the strut, and now its not moving anymore and it also clears the oil vapor/separator nicely 8)

For the winter stop I intend to change a few things:

The rear shock absorbers are to long. i fitted 20 inch GAZ coil overs and those are way to long  i need 18 inch.
I am going to weld a new exhaust because currently its 1,5 inch in diameter. My plan is to make a 2 inch sport exhaust system.
The brake booster has to be changed. i currently have a 20/21 booster and for BMW's with rear disc brakes you need 22/17. it feels like the rear brakes are not braking as hard as they should, the rear brake check valve also has to be deleted.
 
Al and al the car runs great. here's a nice pic of a 4C that is getting passed by an M42 :P

I did some new work on the car. First of al new rear shocks so i wont bounce of the track.



I bought another brake booster witch I rebuild. I also deleted the check valve to the rear wheels.





Welded some holes



and last but not least I made a new exhaust system. Everything is from Simons witch offers great exhaust parts. The sound is nice, noting to loud. if I found it to boring i will remove the DB killer. Also the ground clearance is much better than the exhaust that used to be on it.








This might save my exhaust someday :P. Since i don't want to be stuck anymore on a curb.
So the car is ready for the new race season. I can't wait until Easter weekend to put it to the test.

Oh that looks sturdy enough!

Are you also participating in trackdays from driving-fun/driverdays or only ringlaps?

It has been a long time ago since i posted something but a lot has happened. 
After the first track weekend in 2018 i decided to renew my brake pads. then i found out that my brake cylinders were stuck.
So i had to rebuild my brake calipers. When i removed the cylinder i found out that they were rusted badly. So i put in new cylinders and seals on al four brake calipers.
I also had new steel brake lines laying around witch i never had motivation for to fit them but since i had to bleed the brakes i thought this was the time.


So now i have al rebuild brake calipers with new brake lines everywhere witch was really a pain in the ass. It look likes its painted but it is just wire brushed.

A friends of mine wanted to build an E36 so suddenly a had a lot of spare parts that i could buy.
So i bought a cage a seat and seat belts. The time had come that this would become a full track day car.


It was nicely cut out! Even the brake lines were still underneath it :P

Then the fun part began. I removed al the interior and al of the isolation mats witch is a time consuming annoying task. 
6 years ago i had my front jack stands welded and when i removed the carpet they were rotted again. This time i welded it myself so it should be good.





When that was done i painted the interior white.



It took three layers before it looked nice. Now the problem is is that the seam sealer won't dry so when i started grinding and
welding al the shavings ect would stick to the seam sealer.


Welded some brackets for the seats belts. And 6mm of reinforcements for the rear section of the roll cage.


Fresh coat of orange.


Because it is/was a four door roll cage i had to make it fit. if i would have left it as is it would half in the dashboard.
So i cut the cage and made it fit witch is really hard because of al the bends.


Welded the rear section in witch was pretty easy. only the rear mounts were hard to reach. It was a bolt on cage but i just
welded everything. I still have my speakers ect because its a long drive to the nurburgring and i still want some music.


The front part was a real puzzle but me and a friend made it fit so it would sit nicely behind the dashboard.
The passenger seat is only there for the looks it isn't really comfortable. I bought one new seat for me and made custom seat supports.
When i drove around i found out that the seat was in the wrong position so i had to made new brackets. I put spacers in the steering column
so the steering wheel would sit further down since i have a new steering wheel. The seam sealer is still wet btw.


welded imitation parts on the original front fender. Worked out nice.


First time with a roll cage. it was really nice i didn't have to lean in a curve but i miss the foot rest next to the clutch pedal.

In Oktober we went for the final time this year to the nurburgring. The weather was shitty and even worse the engine was shitty to.
I heard noises coming from the engine i thought i heard conrod bearings again. When i got home i decided to just open up the engine for inspection.
And i was not going to do it while it was in the car so i pulled the engine (with the car lift).



I decided to pull the conrod bearings but there was nothing out of the ordinary to find. When i pulled the main bearing caps i found a spun bearing.
It was a mes, the locking tabs on the bearings were gone and the crankshaft and the bearing caps were destroyed.



Well that was it for this M42. you can bring it to the shop and have it re drilled and stuff but that's just to expensive.
Luckily i have some good friends witch have a lot of BMW stuff lying around. Because everyone knows about the Issus i had/have one of them gave me a bare engine block for free.
So i picked it up and it was dirty as fuck. It had been sitting in the corner for 4 years. So this time i decided to check everything!!!



After a lot of cleaning i removed the crankshaft and the rest of the internals. And it all looked great! No damage to be found and
the main bearings are still in good shape. this engine has about 400.000 kilometers on the clock and it still looks great!



Since it had been sitting in the corner i spent the next day just cleaning an cleaning. Also pulled the pistons and weighed the conrods properly.
I'm replacing the piston rings just to be sure and because it was dirty.





This is how it sits now i painted the block and everything is cleaned. now al i have to do is wait for parts to arrive.
In the meanwhile i have to clean the head and all the other stuff that came of my old engine since i only got the block.
Then i can start rebuilding it again.
