Greetings,

I have a few items for sale that you may be interested in.  I'm paypal/eBay verified.  You are responsible for actual shipping fees and insurance.  I will use flat rate USPS if at all possible and insure for full retail value.  For shipping the body kit, you're tentatively paying, so this is up to you in who you prefer for freight shipping and you will be responsible for the shipping materials for such a substantial shipment- I am more than happy to do the leg work to facilitate your preferences.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.  This list will be modified as needed and more to come as I dig through my boxes.  Thanks for looking.  Cheers - DRTE30.

3)  Bilstein/AC Schnitzer BMW E30 M3/S3 struts
Purchased in Germany.  Specifically valved to AC Schnitzer's needs for the BMW E30 M3/S3.  Features the original AC Schnitzer stickers as well as knurled logo and part numbers into the strut housings.  These were rebuilt fall 2015 by Bilstein North America to AC Schnitzer specifics, and I can provide a receipt of services rendered to the new owner.  Only known set in North America.  I cannot find any additional information other than an employee who worked for AC Schnitzer in the UK convinced his boss to make a limited production run of about 30 sets for 2400 British Pounds Sterling ($3400), but there was never a confirmation of this actually going through.  This was in 2012.  From those who have these struts on their M3's they all boast of a significant beneficial difference in handling, ride quality and dependability.

For Sale / Feeler: E30 BBS Body Kit & Bilstein/AC Schnitzer M3 Struts
« on: March 02, 2016, 08:18:29 PM »
Greetings all,

I have two delicious, high-profile items for sale.  I thought I was going to use these parts, but my plans are changing out of an E30 to something older, so this stuff will need to go.

1) Late Model BMW E30 BBS body kit w/ part numbers listed in German (see pic).  I salvaged this body kit off a poor 325is that had a rattle can paint job and faux wood interior  :o

BBS Part Numbers:
Front Bumper:  21-12-017
Rear Bumper:   21-12-018

L Front Fender: 21-23-001
L Door:            21-23-003
L Rear Fender:  21-23-013
L Side Skirt:     21-22-037

R Front Fender: 21-23-002
R Door:             21-23-004
R Rear Fender:  21-23-014
R Side Skirt:     21-22-038

2) Bilstein/AC Schnitzer collaboration struts for the E30 M3
I picked these up in Germany and brought them back to America.  I had them overhauled at Bilstein North America a little while ago and are good to go. I can provide receipts of the services if wanted.

Short story: When I contacted Bilstein, the staff had no idea what I was talking about and it took getting a call directly from Bilstein North America management a few weeks later to tell me that they in fact knew what I had and that they had never seen them in real life and were eager to see them and overhaul everything. Awesome customer support btw...

Both of these sets are extremely hard to come by and I think it's safe to say that some of you may not even know of their existence in America.  I'm not looking for an arm and a leg as an asking price, but I will consider realistic offers.  Freight on the struts runs about $35.00.  Freight on the body kit will be $2-300 depending on where this is going. I can ship to America and Canada.  Just a heads up; I will have these sales listed on other BMW related websites, craigslist and eBay within the next few days.  Since this place has helped me so much with my 318is in the past, you get first dibs. 8)  If you have any questions, feel free to ask- hopefully I can answer them for you.  Cheers.

General Topics / Re: Burning Through Fuel Pumps (Relatively Speaking)
« on: September 17, 2014, 08:47:29 PM »
I wanted to make an update to this thread regarding the fuel pump issues in the event another 318is owner has a brain fart and needs guidance.  When I had wired in the VDO fuel pump and had everything put back together, I remember that the fuel pump had more of hollow noise than what I was used to.  This led me to think that rather than this pump also being bad, something wasn't exactly right.  I also remember wiring the fuel pump "the right way" in regards to the colors of the wiring (brown and red) respectively.  But I got to thinking today about this: the  VDO pump was taken out of a 325i.  I originally thought that the wiring would make no difference and was a direct transfer between models.  I was wrong- to an extent.  The fuel pump works fine and is usable cross-platform.  The issue lies in the fuel pump assembly which makes the electrical connection from the fuel pump to the exterior of the fuel tank.

If you are looking directly down at the fuel pump assembly as it sits in the tank of a 318is there is a two-prong connector.  This connector on the left side is green/purple (+12V) and brown (common).  Following the routes of these two respective wires into the fuel tank to the fuel pump, you will find that the +12V is now brown, and the common is red. WTF right?  To me, intuitively, any kind of positive lead is any color other than brown or white.  This in turn resulted in the fuel pump being wired backwards which makes all the difference in the world.  I simply swapped the leads on the fuel pump, cranked it over for about four seconds and it fired right up and the engine idled as it should.  Throttle blips were responsive as normal.  Additionally, the sound that the fuel pump made was noticeably different from when it was wired wrong.

tl;dr
Fuel pump was wired backwards.
Colors of wires in fuel pump assembly were counter-intuitive and wrong
Needed to swap leads on VDO fuel pump
Car starts and idles as it should

I just got done putting in my spare fuel pump that I pulled from my donor 325i.  This one is a VDO unit which I recently tested and is working.  However, I am still not getting my 318is to start.

Before this swap, I could take a rubber hammer and bang on top of my cheap Autozone style fuel pump and get it to come to life with a few whacks.  Once I completed this VDO swap, I cranked the car over four, maybe five times for quite some time and nothing has happened.  I can verify that when the key is 'on' (position ii), the fuel pump does not run, and when the starter is engaged (key turned to position iii), the fuel pump whirls to life and is quite audible.

As far as I know, the VDO fuel pump is wired correctly and I checked my connections before reinstalling.  My 318is fuel pump assembly used brown/black for the wiring color and the 325i used brown/red, so I simply wired brown to brown and black to red.

Lastly, there is a brand new Bosch fuel filter and spark plugs installed.

Ideas?

Engine + Driveline / Re: Upper oil pan replacement
« on: September 09, 2014, 03:05:58 AM »
Did you remember to use locktite on the bolts that hold the upper pan in place?  You would be shocked at how many m42's are driving around with one or two bolts laying in the oil pan just waiting to ruin the owners day when one gets sucked up or wedges into the crank assembly.

I'll ask a dumber question: Is there a sensor that can go bad which would prevent cylinders 1 & 3 to not fire? Crank position sensor in collaboration with...?
To the OP, are you using the factory coil packs and plug wires? All in the proper order?  Crank pulley, and cam pulleys were all at TDC when you reassembled?

You're all very nice peeps. Thanks for the rockauto stuff.

I have a doner pump from my parts car that will go in the IS. The pump is an original unit and works a-ok, so this will go in when I can pull my face away from school work.  I also noticed a split rubber fuel line right above the tank, so those will naturally get replaced too.  Thanks dudes.

hrmm...
Bad ground? Motor in pump maybe due to either worn positive or negative lead?

This would be a difficult one to visually test. Using a Fluke multimeter didn't show anything abnormal.  Maybe I am missing something.

The cause might be due to the increase in Pressure,
depending on modifications performed?

Mark D chip (about two years old)
Mess under the intake delete (about four years now)
Slightly larger, 4-pintel injectors from a Volvo Turbo (about four years old)

If you are buying aftermarket fuel pumps that could be the prob. The pumps from kragen, autozone etc. are garbage. I received one that didnt work right out of the box, and one that lasted 2 weeks. I since have replaced the fuel pump with a used oem unit from the wrecking ward (pic n pull) $10.00 and its been fine for 2 years. Just my $.02!! Skid

This is definitely good to know.  I have an OEM spare that I'm going to throw in this coming week.

I 'd suspect that you have something like rust or abrasive sediment in your tank.

The inside of the tank, from what I can see is with limited angle through the fuel pump hole is as clean as a whistle.  Likewise, each pump has had a filtering screen on it.

Greetings,

Perhaps someone has experienced this phenomenon?  I took ownership of my 318is about four years ago and some time afterwards, the original Bosch fuel pump burned out.  Within the last 3.5 years or so, I have replaced the fuel pump three times, and I am now finding myself in an oh-so-similar situation.  My car turns over and turns over, and when I'm turning it over I give the top of the fuel pump assembly a few taps with a rubber mallet and the car comes to life.  All indicative of yet another fuel pump about to give it up.

Has anyone seen a car go through fuel pumps prematurely?  Pumps are supposed to last years, and mind you I am not using OEM Bosch units as I cannot afford that, though even using a generic fuel pump shouldn't burn out this quickly.  Ideas?  Thanks for any suggestions!

DRTE30,

Sorry for the delay in getting your concern resolved.

We have exchanged emails and have since addressed your issue.

Please let us know if you have any other concerns.

HQ Autosport

Hi Paul and internet!

Sorry for the late update as I am still in Germany and not near a computer.  The contact to where you sent the COP kit went on vacation for over a month and forgot to inform me that they received the package a-ok!  All drama aside, I am happy with how quickly Paul took care of my issues (over the phone) with knowing that I was leaving the country and did everything he could to accommodate me to make things right, before I flew out.  Faith restored.  Happy racing Paul!

We are back on track and fully functioning now.

We are waiting for some #1 coils to come back from the machine shop but we should be fully stocked by the end of this week

We ship from San Diego so once we have our shipment from the machine shop we can get a shipment to LA via USPS fairly quickly.

Howdy person,

This is my last attempt to contact you guys at HQ to get my warranty dealt with, after this, I give up.  This is by no means an attempt to bad mouth your company either.  While I hate making this semi-public, I really have no other option.  I have tried to email Rob repeatedly, which went back and fourth for about ten days in the spring of 2013, then I never heard from him again.  I've even sent you a private message without a response.

I purchased a COP kit, and about six months later, one of the coils went bad.  This was when I was briefly talking back and fourth with Rob.  At that time, all of the parts were still under warranty.  After Rob's final email to send in the coil for a replacement, I never heard from him.  He never provided a phone number, no address, nothing. I boxed everything up and returned it to the address at which the kit was mailed from (and on the invoice through Paypal) along with a letter to please let me know if Rob needed any further assistance.  I still have not heard back from anyone.  This was over a year and a half ago.

It is now coming up on nearly two years after buying this kit.  Can someone at HQ please handle this, before I go crazy?  I have been more than patient and I will not work with Rob for obvious reasons.  Please contact me privately once you have read this.  I leave for Germany in two weeks for the entirety of the summer and at the very least would appreciate talking to you or someone at HQ over the phone.

General Topics / Ronal Wheels: What are they worth?
« on: February 22, 2014, 08:52:22 PM »
Howdy,

When I originally bought my car from the p/o, he had on wheels which looked cool as heck, but I was unaware to how rare they are. They are 7.5x15" with a 25mm offset.  Stamped ACT Germany near the lug holes and also stamped "RONAL" with a serial number on each wheel its self.  I also have all four center caps.  If you notice in the pictures, these wheels have a black shadow line feature along the exterior of the weaves which in my opinion, makes them look bad ass.  They also have a mild dish of about 5cm.

The lips need to be redone, and I've been quoted here in Hawaii for less than a bill to do all four, complete with clear coat, all to factory finish.  I've had them in storage since putting on my Hartge's, so they are pretty dirty in the photos! Woopsy! Anyhow, any thoughts as to what these are worth would be appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure if anyone is interested but while in Germany last summer and poking around I came across two pair of the Hartge 2.3L valve cover emblems.  I swooped them up for an arm and a leg to turn them around and sell them here in the US.  If any of you go through with this engine build, which would be a kick in the pants, lemme know if you want the final Hartge touch on your valve covers!

One has a protective tape on it, the other is missing the protective tape, and all are mint.
