How-To's / E30c M40 ICV test
« on: February 06, 2011, 08:52:17 PM »
Yea basically the hoses that connect to the ICV check for splits, both upper and lower were split on mine. Also there is a short little tube with green writing on it right below your throttle body. And the one at the front of the engine that connects to your valve cover. The rest of the lines can only be accessed through removing your intake manifold.

The mess under the intake mod is a process involving removing and replacing all your vacuum lines with generic vacuum lines from the auto parts store and the end result is an simple route for your lines, and also easy to access.

I had a similar issue and thought it was my ICV as well. However, it was my vacuum lines. After 190k my ICV was in need of a clean, and after several cleaning attempts it has been working fine. I would inspect your vacuum lines as they are cheaper to replace than an icv (if you do the mess under the intake mod)

Electrical / Question about Ellipsoid wiring connectors

not including the city light wiring, are the high/low beam connectors the same for US and Euro Ellipsoids?

Electrical / fast blinker problem
« on: January 18, 2011, 03:11:20 AM »
ok guys I figured it out and wanted to share my findings. the front bumper blinker harness was loose. I cleaned the connector and noticed that the 2 clips were loose so I snapped them back. These are the clips on the wiring end of the connector that houses the 3 wires.

Engine + Driveline / idle control valve?
« on: January 17, 2011, 02:45:00 PM »
I am having the same issue. Did the mess under the intake mod, and have cleaned my icv twice. Been idling fine, but yesterday the same idle surge symptoms returned. Although no t as severe as before I did all the vacuum lines, I'm tempted to think the valve in the icv gets temporarily stuck. Any ideas?

Electrical / Cool idea I thought of

yea that could be pretty slick just would need to put it in a good spot where it can send a good signal

Electrical / fast blinker problem
« on: January 17, 2011, 03:37:22 AM »
my e30 has developed the annoying "turbo blinker." typically this occurs when one bulb is going out. I replaced both front and rear bulbs and the problem persists. My next step will be removing the front bumper to check for a pinched or damaged wire. Any thoughts or suggestions? It is my right turn signal that is having this problem.

clean paint and wheels will look tight once you drop it a little more.

Suspension / Ground control adjustables
« on: December 28, 2010, 07:40:30 PM »
call up ground control and tell them what shocks you have. They have set's that are made for certain shocks like tokico for example. The sleeve needs to fit the shock shaft. But yes like dave said you will need to cut the spring perch to get maximum adjustment

Engine + Driveline / Intermittent Idle Bounce

thanks bud, well a new icv isnt too expensive and also if you hold the icv while plugged in and turn the ignition on it should vibrate if its working.
Everyone everywhere told me it was a vacuum leak but id checked everything, the only reason i decided on the lambda sensor is because apparently they're meant to be changed every 30,000-50,000 miles and my car had done 84,000! plus it was in a sh*t state to look at lol.

haha well im glad you found the culprit! I am gonna do the mess under the intake mod soon  and try another ICV hopefully and replace my temp sensor and if it persists.....i will try the o2 sensor.

It could be the icv then, one thing ive learnt is the car is more intelligent than you think and when you change or disconnect something it normaly componsates elsewhere to keep it going.. Ie, disconect the electric wire on icv it will hunt slightly but wont surge, do the same with airflow meter and itll do the same thing.. I found it strange that when i opened the oil filler cap that made my m42 idle perfect, thats the engine trying to compensate for air change, weird! Lol..
Anyway i fixed mine last night, it turned out to be the lambda/02 sensor.. Good luck mate

cheers! Glad you got yours fixed. My battle is not over yet, everyone keeps telling me "vacuum leak vacuum leak" but if that was the case it would do this all the time? So I have a feeling the icv is going out. When I cleaned it (the first time it's ever been cleaned I'm sure) it ran great and when the idle tried to drop it corrected itself like it should. After a week or so the problem returned. I think the mechanism inside is getting stuck
