For Sale / FS (CT): Complete m42 engine/harness/tans/ecu; $250

sorry i havnt checked this thread in a while.  I still have it and would consider putting it on a pallat and shipping for someone seriously interested.  I am not sure how much it would cost to ship tho, I just shipped a turbo kit out fedex that was just under the old weight limit for freight and it cost like $180, i would assume freight is more.

Strut brace is being used on my other car and I have sold off lots of pieces already but tons of other random parts lying around that I was going to list up at another time.

I havn't scrapped the rest of the car yet, the shell is sitting in my backyard and all the other parts are scattered around my yard or sold.

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Need a bit of help
« on: March 08, 2010, 05:51:01 PM »
All you gotta do it put a new mls headgasket and studs in that can hold 30psi (if you want to run that much).  Ive seen it done several times and the engines are fine as long as you tune it right.  An m20 motor like that can stand up to more hp than your driveline will be able to.

So my sisters boyfriend was driving my car and ended up rolling it so I parted the car out.  I have the entire engine dropout and all the little odds and ends, I dropped it straight out with the subframe so everything attached is included (and it has a brand new lower oilpan that was only on there about 50 miles before it was crashed.) .  Has roughly 210k on it and ran perfect before the car was crashed.  Only asking $250 for everything.

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / budget turbo build! advice/info needed

I dont know exactly how much power I make but I have beaten several e36 m3's and keep right up with 350z's.  My car is my daily, I have been driving it turboed for a couple of years now and put at least 30k on the turbo setup and with a couple of track days.  It has been extremly reliable,  i dont really have any negatives about driving it i love my car but its just completly different feel driving a turbo car around.

I made my own with buttweld fittings and tightened up the MAF spring.  By the exact same thing I meant a budget turbo build, not using the ebay special manifold if thats what you thought I meant.

I did this exact same thing, If i were to do mine again I would go with a mercur xr4ti turbo i think they are a garrett .48 hot and .60 cold or something close to that.  Right now i have a .48/.42 t3, same thing you can find on a old dodge/chrysler 4cyl turbo, but without the weird flange.  As for the manifold, I think you should go to a plumbing supply store and buy some butt weld fittings, it was so much easier to just make your own even if it is a log style rather than keep trying to modify another design and it will hold up for a long time.  The last thing i wish i knew before i started my project is that you should def. buy some nice mandrel U bends for the I.C piping and have a nice chop saw, It will save you a lot of time.

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / problems with thick Headgasket
« on: January 25, 2008, 08:28:30 PM »
Has anyone who ran a thicker headgasket had problems with their profile gasket blowing? ( http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=AF93&mospid=47305&btnr=11_0156&hg=11&fg=10 ) part number 10... mine failed on the backside of the opening for the thermostat.  Since it is sealed between the head and the cover, if you use a thicker headgasket and raise the head up it might not hold up as well and I completly overlooked this when i put my gasket on.  I havn't been able to find any information on it so I was just wondering what everyone elses experiences were with this.

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / M42 Forced Induction Advice please.
« on: December 28, 2007, 07:13:23 PM »
here is my experience with my turbo m42.  My car has a stage colder plugs and the thickest headgasket you can buy from the bmw dealer, I forgot the actual thickness.  I have been through a few setups already but I use to run about 6psi with the stock injectors and a rising rate, my injectors were maxed out and it started running really lean at about 7psi.  It ran good then but i kept getting beat and needed more power.  So now i have 42lb injectors and run about 10-11 psi on the same setup.  As far as tuning goes, i have the stock ecu, factory timing and everything, all i did was mess around with the mass airflow a little bit rev it up in the garage a couple times to make sure it wasnt huffing black smoke and left it.  For some reason it ended up working pretty well for over 30k miles.  I dont see any problems running 12lbs or more with a good tune and knocking back the timing.
