Engine + Driveline / Re: M40 vs M42 clutch torque capicity
« on: December 18, 2017, 06:57:56 PM »
Thanks for the detailed responses Johna. My stock clutch is holding up fine so far so I have time to consider other options. But having a non-A/C M40 flywheel in my parts bin is making me want to just go with it. Hopefully, I can find a beefier clutch.

Hey guys,

I'm trying to find out some information regarding the difference between the M40 and M42 clutches in terms of their power/torque capicity.

I've done some research and found that the M42 clutches used in conjunction with the Downing Atlanta Supercharger kit have stood up really well with over 200ft/pd of torque which is great information.

My question is then related to using the M40 clutch and flywheel with a setup that has this sort of power - is the M40 clutch much worse in terms of power handling?

I cannot seem to find any information regarding this.

Cheers.

Bumping this thread up. I have an M40 single-mass, non-AC flywheel (ironically, I bought it from MikeDE) to replace my dual mass 91' 318i m42 flywheel. However, I've since installed a DASC, which I'm running basically as intended by Downing Atlanta. Is the M40 single-mass flywheel with oem clutch going to be stout enough? If not, is there a beefier clutch I can use with the M40 flywheel?

Pray tell, what did GRM do to address the lean condition?'

I found some more info on the GRM car. This follow-up tells about what they did to deal with the lean mixture . . . no small task:

The PDFs of the articles are also posted there.

Someone should really buy this car. They've put a lot of work into sorting it out.

Anymore reviews? I'm trying to decide between going with the RHD ltw or standing pat with the OEM m40 flywheel that I've already procured.

WTB/WTT / E36 105a alternator wanted, early M42 v-belt type

I'm looking for an early E36 318 ('95 and earlier IIRC - these still had the V-Belt instead of the serpentine) had 105A alternator. P/Ns are 12 31 1 734 558 or 12 31 1 734 322 -- same alternator but 1st one is the newer number

For Sale / AC Schnitzer dead pedal for convertible
« on: May 20, 2014, 09:38:39 PM »
$170 shipped CONUS.

This is a real ACS dead pedal, but I'm just not sure if it is an original vert dead pedal, or a coupe/sedan dead pedal that has been trimmed to fit a vert.

You can see in the pic from the ACS catalogue that it's shaped just like a cabrio dead pedal, but the part number stamped on the back of mine 5171 10 70.

For Sale / e30 cruise control retrofit
« on: January 07, 2014, 11:06:07 PM »
edit: SOLD!

I pieced together these cruise control parts after reading a couple write-ups on this forum, but I doubt I'll ever do the retrofit. So I'm selling it all for $75 shipped in the lower 48.

- wiring harnesses
- cruise control computer & mounting bracket
- cruise control stalk
- cruise control actuator
- throttle cable
- clutch switch

I'll also include a spare wiring harness and cruise control computer. Everything in this picture

Everything was sold to me as being in working in order when pulled, but I never installed any of the parts, so I cannot make any guarantees.

I just saw this 1976 widebody 2002 on German Cars for Sale blog. It's an eye-catcher, but my mind was blown when I saw that it was a turbo'd m42  :o

Engine + Driveline / Re: Anyone done an E36 serpentine belt setup?
« on: July 02, 2013, 04:40:15 PM »
I know it's been seven years since the last post, but I'm wondering if in that time someone has retrofitted an e36 M42 serpentine belt setup to an e30 m42. Looking for some guidance as I prepare to install a DASC on my '91 e30 318i. I'm told the DASC was originally on an '92 e36.

wow, if you sell all of it, you could buy a car

Took a little while, but I sold it all and cleared over $1,700, which is more than I paid for each of my e30s :)
