Suspension / Experience with Monroe shocks+springs?
« on: October 18, 2008, 12:48:04 PM »
Monroes are sold at Canadian Tire as OE replacements. I find them expensive (at CT) for what they are. Bilsteins are much better quality and offer improved handling. The classic H&R Sport (or Race) and Bilstein sports is hard to beat on E30s, cost wise and performance wise.

Suspension / Is the Z3 rack really any better?

I used a 1997 M3 rack, 3.25 lock to lock ratio. Huge difference. I love it.

Engine + Driveline / Redline with MarkD chip?
« on: April 19, 2008, 11:52:41 AM »
7200rpm is where mine redlines....all the way down the rev counter..which is cool lol. I drove a stock M42 yesterday...incredible what a change that little chip makes.

here's a quick list of what we get in Canada:
323i,328i,328xi,335i,335xi,535i,535xi,650i,750i, 750li,760li,Mcoupe/roadster,M5,M6,Z4,X3,X5

128i,135i,X6,M3

and although the 4cyl in the 320si in race form is very very nice, the street version, like almost all bmw engines, is very detuned. 170hp from a 2liters 4cyl in 2008 is not very impressive. It's very conservative.

try http://www.massivebrakes.com   for brakes. I highly recommend them. They've been tried and tested by racers.

Suspension / IE sway bars
« on: November 26, 2007, 07:58:29 PM »
the top mounts will not be affected. The rear bar mounts will need to be reinforced with their kit. Bigger bars make the independent suspension a bit less independent...and might make the car a bit oversteery.

It could be the wire, i'd check the sensor first.

Engine + Driveline / Wierd hissing noise

silverblades- i looked at the belts, and they looked fine, although i don't really know what to look for per se. I always thought belts squeaked, I've never heard of them hissing. how should i check them though?

Well maybe I misunderstood the noise your hearing..to me belts do a hissing sound. I guess you'd know if it was a belt sound. As for what to look for, check for cracks and a noisy pulley.

Suspension / Snap oversteer
« on: October 29, 2007, 06:34:17 PM »
I've tracked my E30 318is with a similar suspension setup (H&R Sport and Bilstein Sports) multiple times on multiple circuits and I've never experienced snap oversteer. Maybe try to be more gentle with how you get off the gas and your initial bite during braking. My instructor pointed that out to me and it really helps keep the car settled. Or maybe there is something wrong with the car? Alignment?
