Engine + Driveline / Oil change gone wrong

So im chaing my oil, i drained it and i went to tighten the drain bolt back in, as im tightening it up the bolt snaps right at the head.

This bolt i bought when doing my last oil change. I never had this happen before with reused bolts on my previous cars.

Now, does this mean i need a new lower oil pan? This is really frustrating.

Has this happened to anyone before?

It is a plate that is mounted between the throttle body and the upper intake manifold. It looks like an aluminum spacer from the top. I recently learned that it was put there to keep the throttle body from freezing at low temps. Apparently chinks of ice were foring in cold weather testing and blocking the TB so it wouldn't close. I havn't heard of this actually happening to anyone who has removed it, but I guess it was only recorded as occuring below 0 degrees. The plate is also a bit of a restriction in the intake and has 4 or 5 hoses running to 2 different plates that get cracked and leak.

So wait, youre saying that if i remove this plate i wont have to replace all of those vacuum hoses? What the OP posted in the first post, the first set of pictures iwth the cracked hoses, I have to replace all of those as well. Pretty much teh same story for me. So are those the 4 to 5 hoses runnig to 2 different plates you are talking about? I dont mean all of them.

Basically why i am confused is that the OP posed the pics of all the cracked hoses, and then a box with new parts and had only 2 hoses in there. And now ure saying that this restrictor plate eliminates some of those vacuum hoses?

Alright its time to do this. Im looking at summit racing and jegs. Summit has a 2.25" in/out no air inlet 12.7" long Catco Universal cat for $56. are these dimentions right? I know its 2.25" in/out, but what about the length? Im having a shop weld in the cat, and i wanna spend no more than $200 for the whole thing.

Anyone have any imput on this?

« on: October 15, 2007, 07:17:56 PM »
Ok so i failed for the second time, and its the same story.

NOx:   2572   Standard: 1134
HC:     167     Standard: 146
CO%:   0.75   Standard: 0.82
CO2%: 13.8   Standard: doesn't say
O2%:   .9      Standard: doesn't say

Ok the exhaust and cat look pretty much brand new. The previous owner said it was replaced header back to the cat. But after the cat it looks a tad bit older, but nothing rusty and ugly. So the exhaust looks fine, and im sure hte O2 sensor was replaced as well.

I changed teh spark plugs, and did an oil change. The car runs fine. Smells a little rich at times. My hoses are still old, i need to replace those,  but i taped up the cracks that would cause leaks before the test.
I also drove around for a good while and got it nice and hot.

My friend says its hte O2 sensor, that it might be possible that whoever did the exhaust reused the O2 sensor. I really hope not.

thats the american option. Most US 318is cars have that interior. Other option was tan cloth, yuk.

yea i went from a '95 325is to a '91 318is and i honestly feel like i've upgraded. yes the e30 lacks some of the luxuries and amneties, but it makes up so much in the overall driving experience, and sheer excileration. My car, although chipped with a MarkD, is still not as fast as my 325is i used to have, but it damn FEELS faseter, everytime i wind that sucker up to 7k rpm my hairs stand on end.

Plus with some suspension mods the car is a solid, compact, perfect package.
