What are we looking at time-wise at a shop to get this done?  Saw a new one for 900 bucks at realoem -- any cheaper alternatives from a later model/non-oem?

This is pretty easy to change.  An amateur (like me) can do it in 1-2 hours.  Don't forget to bench bleed the master cylinder before you put it on.  If you don't,  you will never get all of the air out of the lines.

Check Rockauto.com.  They have good prices on Master Cylinders.
