SC M42B21 engine
« on: October 21, 2009, 08:39:06 PM »
Ok...so this has been a long time dream of mine. To build the M42B18 engine that i currently have, into an M42B21. MM make an engine like this...reasonably priced as well...at only US$9000...and with the exchange rate at the moment...it's only like AU$10000 :D

There are actually 2 engines that would suit me from MM.

2100 Rally M42 Engine
Displacement: 2091cc
Bore: 87mm x stroke 88mm
CR: 11.5:1
Horsepower: 205 @ 7350
Torque: 165 Ft.Lbs @ 5150
Redline: 7700rpm
Acceleration: 0 - 60 in 6.5 sec
                   1/4 mile - 14.5 sec. / 98 mph
Cost: US$8495.00 (AU$9200 approx.)

2100 M42 Forced Induction Engine
Displacement: 2044cc
Bore: 86mm x stroke 88mm
CR: 8.6:1
Horsepower: 250 - 350hp
Torque: NA
Redline: NA
Acceleration: NA
Cost: US$8995.00 (AU$9700 approx.)

There isn't much more info about the FI M42...but it sounds amazing :D
I'd be more than likely dropping in the DASC...just for the bottom end torque...get me off the line nice and quick ;) that would be about another US$3500 (AU$3800 approx.) on top of the cost of the engine.

and there is the other stuff that i would get...GruppeM CF Intake, extractors, performance underdrive pulleys, eisenmann exhaust system, lightened flywheel and clutch assesembly...and all the lil add-ons to allow my car to handle the power output.

Total Cost: roughly US$15000 (AU$16200 approx.)

keep in mind, this is all future planning...just wanted to get some feedback on the subject from some fellow M42ers...

Cheers,
Jester

wow, thats alot of $. I hope you go with the MM fi motor.  I have only seen one build where somone uses it. IIRC they were pushing around 400whp.:D

It seems you could build a similar motor for much cheaper than what MM charges.

For that kind of money you can have an s14b25 Sport Evo engine. Just a thought... ;)

True, but replacement parts for an S14 are way too expensive.

The beauty of the M42 is the fact that cores are easily sourced and inexpensive.  New parts are also inexpensive.

These are the reasons we decided to build our M42 turbo for our BMWCCA club race car.

Yes i could...but looking at the specs on that...even a naturally aspirated S14B25 engine only puts out bout 230-240hp...
and it would cost a hell of a lot more to get it into my car...new brackets would need to be made...not to mention all the wiring harnesses...
this way seems much less stressful ;)

I just wish Miller would hurry up and make the W.A.R. chip for my ECU

s14b25 with only alpha n makes 270hp??? i'm not so sure about that... for me cheapest solutions for making over 200hp are
1) 6 cyl swap - but for getting more than stock power is very expensive
2) turbocharge M42 - no limits, you start from 200hp with stock engine and 1000$ and so on
3) tuned S14 - engine is expensive, every shit to puts on is more expensive, every part costs twice only for the M sign

so if you wanna leave the car light, wanna have a race engine etc a tuned m42 is far bad than an s14.... and for getting more than 300hp is probably the cheapest solution

No way. AN increases throttle response and will add a few horses (~2-5).
But anyway, not to hijack this thread, I'd love to see a blog of your m42b21 project. Interesting to say the least.
