no, are people doing this? i thought that the whole timing case being separate wouldn't require resurfacing. As for the pistons, I'm using an M44 crank w/M44 pistons, with the rods of both motors being the same length the pistons/pin would have to be different.

thanks for the kind words about my car, just like people though I only post the best pics of her lol.

Got the head back today and installed the MM valve springs/retainers. For $200 i'm not complaining.

I popped the ring gear off my spare M42 flywheel and I'm having rebello swap it with the one on my 528e 13.5lb flywheel. If I don't drop too much money at rebello I might order my cams next week.

I snagged a M44 electric fan from pick n' pull the other day and a non-airbag cruise stalk to go behind my MT2 steering wheel. Now all I need is the actuator cable from an E36 and i'll have all the bits to add cruise.

Haha, yeah! I had set the cam trays there to make room on my bench, and when I took the pic I realized that it kinda looks like a face: cam shaft eyes, crank snout nose, and water pump hole mouth...

Hopefully I'll get the rear subframe and 25mm brake MC swapped in saturday.

What kind of durations did you guy with on the cams? How much were they from hqautosport?

dunno, they are used regrinds of stock cams and the hq guys didn't have specs on them. looks like they took a decent amount off the back sides of the lobes (smaller base circle) and increased duration. Don't think I'll have time to have them spec'd. Still waiting for rebello to finish the bottom end. Picked up a full gasket set, just need to order chain rails/tensioner and oil pump relief valve.

What are the advantages of having a single row timing chain?

Less rotational mass (~2lbs) = faster revs
Metric Mechanic also says that the single row chains last longer
