How can we make this work for our M42s? I'm picking up a 95 M42 this weekend which already has the knock sensor. looks like i just need to find where to pull the RPM signal from... anybody?

You can pick up the tach and the knock signals straight off the DME cant you? Just run your wires in the back side of the connector and hook them to the wires that attatch to the RPM and knock sensor pins.

E30s don't have knock sensors.

he's going after a 95 M42... which is NOT an E30, but rather an E36... E30's were made from 84 (318i M10) up to 1991, (1992 for convertibles).

Actually, I have an E30 318is. Picked up the 95 M42 for the lighter valvetrain and cheaper timing chain setup. I'll be tearing it apart this week and then getting all the internals purchased, machined, and reassembled by the spring.

I'm planning on using a wideband O2 sensor, KnockLite, and Ostrich 2 Eprom emulator to get the tuning just right. But I'll be running the E30 175 ecu, not the E36 ecu.

Just wondering if anyone has played with one of these yet?

I'm sure the E36 knock sensor is just a power, ground, and signal; which i'll hook up to the knocklight. Push the timing to the edge, then bump it back one degree.
