Tweeter pod wiring

When I had my left front speaker out cleaning the mud dobber nest off the cone, I noticed a LOT of wiring back there, and many connectors that were not being used, some of which that looked like they might go to more speakers.

Anyone know if the tweeter pod connections are already down there or is that something you have to splice in yourself?

Anyone know what all of those unused connectors are for?

Well, there are a variety of things down there.
There is the central locking module below, plus some other looms for the door gromit.
If your car is a ~90 on E30, I believe they will all have full E30 wiring looms installed (which means your wiring should be in place, even if you didn't have the option at the factory, yes even those tweeters!)
On the left it is the grey/green and grey/yellow set that runs into the door gromit, then behind the door panel card up to the inside of the mirror.
The electric/heated side mirror wiring will be there too.
If you have the tweeter blanks, remove them (the procedure is funky, you have to do it a time or two to get it down) and see the wiring.

You can get factory tweeter pods, boil them to remove the OE tweeter parts and install
your choice of tweeter:)

Depending on the options that came from factory, I know tweeter and heated mirrors are an option. Also the regular wires for the door lock, the mirror, and the window. When I added the sound system, my car did not have the tweeter pods, just blanks. I go used tweeter pods, remove the tweeter and added my MB Quart ones and used the existing wiring to connect it to the MB Quart crossover. You would have to look at the ETM for the wiring colors. SHould only be 2 for the speaker.

I'm only on my 3rd E30, but so far its 3/3 for tweeter wiring already being there.

How do you boil a plastic tweeter mount without it melting/cracking/fading to white?

The correct way is to squirt a little Methylated Spirit or Nail Varnish Remover around the tweeter and leave for a few minutes. It will break down the glue and it should just fall out. If not, gently twist it out with a pair of pliers. Then cut/drill away the excess plastic ring to neatly seat in a new tweeter. Seal with foam/glue/silicone. The stock tweeters in there are not great.

As for wiring, it is present in all E30's but unless you had the premium sound option it's not of much use. The footwell speakers from that option have the crossover installed and so the grey/yellow grey/green tweeter wires change colour when they go through the door grommet. So when you go to find them in the footwell to tap into them you won;t find them. They normally terminate into a 4-pin plug that feeds the aforementioned footwell speaker/crossover set-up.

I guess two of those are the tweeter wire that you could tap into but who knows what polarity is what etc etc.

I just fed my own wire into the door - better quality in the end and about the same time to do.
