What do you guys think?
« on: September 21, 2009, 10:09:37 AM »
In about 2 weeks my 91 318is will be ready to drive. I do not feel like taking the dash and center consol out to replace the carpets that are awful looking but I do plan to put some nice new floor mats in. I am still deciding whether to reupolster the seats or just buy seat covers.

But my biggest question is whether or not I should tent the windows and put in streetglow. I have always liked the look of lights under a car and I know the popularity of these have seriously declined. Should I put streetglow in the car and tint the windows or leave the car as it is? Thoughts? Also what type of rims should I put on the car?

I also want to put a supercharger in my 318 on a later date but I can not seem to find one for this car. Any help on this?

Forgive me as I'm a noob here, but I beg of you not to put a blower or street glow on one of these cars.  First, the blower will take away from a neat little car and quickly destroy the motor.  Second the street glow is akin to wearing MC Hammer pants and will further date a 19 year old car.

Personally, I think it will look absolutely short bus as well.

In terms of t(i)nt, fire it up, as I've always put it on my cars.

Finally, you don't have to take the dash out to get the carpet out- just the seats and both center consol(e) pieces.  I believe you will have to make a couple small cuts for the evaporator and/or the heater core if memory serves.

When you say "A blower" do you mean supercharger?

McHammer and street glow. Not the 2 things I compair lol.

Its also 18 years old :P

And about the carpets. Taking out that center consol is a pain and the carpet goes under the dash board. I mean I could cut it out right there. I don't know. A quick solution is putting new floormats down. No one will care.

Street Glow? Really?..... IMHO that could possibly be the worst thing you could spend $$ on for your whip. Come on man. Its your car you do what you want, but if you do you have to post a pic....

Superchargers are commonly known as blowers; they "blow" more air into the engine...

McHammer, street glow, dubs, whobedapublicenema= all the same= FAIL!

I am absosmurfly positive you don't need remove the dash to get the carpet out.  When you get it back, have a good look around and you will see what I mean.  Again, I'm pretty sure the only cuts needed are at the evaporator and heater core.

And if it takes you more than 10 minutes to remove both parts of the center console, then I sure hope you are going to have a shop install the above stated "bling" into your car.  What is it, 2 plastic nuts for the rear piece and 1 in the front with 2 or 4 more screws?  Really, it is very simple.

NO STREETGLOW!!!  if you want street glow, sell your BMW immediately and buy a Honda Civic.

As for the superchargher (blower) there is no reason why not, by supercharging that engine you are taking away absolutely nothing from the car, but rather adding to it.  google "Downing Atlanta" they make a supercharger kit for the M42 for $3500 that puts it up to 188 rwhp (as opposed to 127 or something).  So that is more power than the E30 M3.

and as far as wheels, anything from a 15x7 to a 16x9 would be a good size, and don't even think about any wheel that is chrome.

The Car was bought from a junk yard. It's being restored. We got a new paint job and cleaned the engine looks great. Just got to put the glass back in and send it back to the pant shop so they can buff it without getting paint dust every where.

So a no go on the neons.

3500 for a supercharger. Wow

But rims. What kind. The rims I have on it have to go.

I will see about changing out the interior. But I am positive you have to take out the dash

I may buy this instead :P its 3495 dollars cheaper and I get that great sound. ;)

I do want a supercharger. I would love to track the car. Bring the e30 back to the tracks.

They have brought the E30 back to the track; in the form
of the spec E30 series. It us what has driven up the prices on the E30.

It's cool you are saving one and st least doing some things correctly including not trying to make it look like a hover craft from Back to the Future.

We took the glass out because some idiot cut a square out of the head liner and it has to be replaced. Well I sanded the car down which got crap in the car and what I did not do the paint shop did.

The car is cleaned up now. Only red dust is on the driver side which I can steam clean out and we are putting in new floor mates so it wont mater. Oh and theres red dust where the radio is supposed to go but because I am getting a new radio for it we will yank that out and clean it before we put in the new one.

Car is looking great. Got to get the front window in. Me and my stepdad roped the back window and the two side window on the 4th. We wanted the front done because thats a harder window but we now decided to put it in ourselves because we do not want it sealed. We got the driver seat redone. Looks awsome. Still have to get it buffed and a few other odds and ends. The pictures are not great. I had it in sports mode and the pics came out crap.

The back seat looked bad. I was suprised that it came out looking new. Its all about the chemicals right?
