its time for new brakes up front, my mech has some nice dust free pads they love, but i want something nicer than the stock rotors.
I see bav auto has cross drilled, slotted, or their "ultimate" which is a mix of both. has anyone tried their's yet? is one better than the others?
I wanna stick with stock calipers, etc, so no big changes, brembo kits, etc

I would say stick to stock, brembo blanks and have your mechanic rebuild your calipers and replace the fluid. There's absolutely no reason to upgrade to drilled or slotted rotors unless you've got say a s50/s52 or plan to track your car.

BTW, do you know the details on the pads he's putting in for you?

There is something to be said for OE, I have plans to get some more power going on, but nothing major in the near future. I think it was more for look than anything else. However the car stops rather well, but when I drive it in the mountains hard for a while, the ammount of fade is somewhat bothersome. I was hoping for a little improvement there.
Not sure on the brand of pads he wants to toss on, but I trust they are reasonable, as they are very reputable and have cared for the car for 10 years. They are huge on OE and last time were nice to put ATE Powerdisc rotors on (which I did like, they were only made for the front) as they don't dissapprove of the product.
Should I go with that again?
PS. Front brakes quote was right around $300 and change, USD. (whatever dust free pads he has, OE rotors, etc)

I've used ATE rotors in the past, no problems there. They do look sportier but that's about it. Definitely look into new fluid and perhaps getting some SS brake lines to prevent fade.

our cars stop so fast on stock stuff i would try brembo blanks, SS lines, hawk hps pads, and some nice high temp fluid. motul makes some high temp stuff that works really well. other than that if you want to get brembo slotted rotors your going to need some really nice tires. i have brembo blanks on hawk pads (no SS lines) this set up will lock up my 195 falken azenis after a good bit of driving too when i know everything is good and sticky.

I bought some centric premium rotors from zeckhausenracing.com, they are a "better-than-stock" replacement, without getting unnecessarily fancy.

Sold me on them.  Anyways they've been great so far.
