Questions on Metric Mechanics Cam and Pulse Chamber!
« on: September 11, 2009, 03:55:07 AM »
Hey there,my name is Moritz,I´m from Munich,Germany and my ride is a M42 318is E36,thats why I´m here.I´ve got some questions concerning the cool Metric Mechanics parts for my beloved M42 and I wanted to ask you as un-biased (right word?) spectators.I mean which company would like to tell you about the disadvantages of their products?

Ok,the pulse chamber manifold seems to be a great performance mod,but is it really working?I really tried to translate it into german, but i just couldn´t do it.I know the explenation from their catalog but i didn´t unterstand it,even not with the help of my dictionary (knows also engineering words).Could anybody explain the function in easy english just for me?It would be really nice!Is the price for gaining torque in the midrange loosing top end torque? And I don´t have the E30 M42 manifold,I have the M42 E36 manifold with DISA (variable intake length),is there any power and torque gain on MY DISA engine or just for E30 models?

Second question is about the Sport Cam with 258 deg intake and 11.15 valve lift combined with a stock 228 deg exhaust cam.Does anybody of you have this cam?How would you describe the power development? Is there nothing below 3500 RPM and then a hurricane? In germany the 318is drivers prefer Schrick Cams with 256 deg at both cams, and you really have to squeeze it to have fun,is it the same with the 258 inlet cam?how much power would i gain?

So I hope you unterstood my english and can help me.

And I want to sympathize with the victims of 9/11 today!

best regards,Moritz

Hi Moritz,
i suppose "Pulse chamber" do not offer any advantage to your engine. Your E36 engine already have more or less the similar system with variable intake length.

stick with the E36 manifold, it is probably not worth it unless you had a E30.
