Whats in my valve cover?
« on: September 10, 2009, 04:52:03 PM »
So the head is off and the valve cover sat in a hot tank two days and I get it back and there is some kind of oil diffuser or such in the top of the valve cover protecting the vaccum port- I guess to keep from sucking the oil out.  This thing isn't on any parts diagram I can find.  There are three parts, a cover, a gasket, and the internal "diffuser".  My gasket is now turned to goo.  I need a new one.  Anybody know what the gizmo in the valve cover is called?  Part no?  Anything?

IIRC it's not available in separate pieces. If that is in fact what you are asking. And just to make sure, when you say the gasket is goo, you are referring to the sandwiched gasket in the baffle, not the VC gasket, correct?

Also, I am not running mine and everything is just fine.

VC gasket is OK.  It is the gasket under the cover part of the baffle thing.  Clearly, it isn't significant- probably emissions related excessiveness - and my old gasket is slowly discharging the solvent and shrinking/ firming up enough to probably be servicable.  I may leave the gasket out and assemble the remainder, or I might just remove it.  Seems like it might be good in long right turns to keep from tossing out the oil...

I put mine in with no gasket and it rattled. I don't recommend it, but it's your call.
