I am in the market for a good chip and have been searching around this site for a while and have not found a thread like this so here goes....

The idea is for everyone that has/has had an after market chip come here and talk about the gains you got from the chip, post dyno sheets and compare them to the other chips out there. i have read the threads about the specific chips like MarkD and the Pro Formance chip etc., but as far as i know no one has ever had a thread to compare them and stuff like that. please try to back up your statements with facts like dyno sheets or a credible source (i.e. official sites not "some dude on BF.c said blah blah blah")

ex: i think the _________ chip works best if your looking for _________, but the ________ chip is better for ___________. heres some dyno stats.....

lol, point is lets have a dedicated thread to discuss the various chips available for our lovely M42's, they deserve the best!

Not a good thread idea... the other threads you mention already cover this.

Mark D chip is the best, period. Then there is the other "tuner" chips, which aren't as good as Mark D. Then there are the ebay chips. You don't know what you get with alot of those. Mark has already stated they are all copies of one company or anothers code... including the pro formance.

That being said, my results with the pro formance chip were as follows: Before rwhp: 118 torque: 108. After rwhp: 136 torque: 122. Now this was with delta regrind cams and a deleted parasitic fan. Only difference between the first two runs and the second two were the chip and the fan... had cams in since engine rebuild.

i still think it would be better to have one thread for all the chips out there instead of searching around for all the individual threads about one particular chip. just a place for everyone that wants to buy a chip can look at instead of wading through this entire sub section and then deciding.

If Mark told you to jump off a bridge would you do it? Nothing against the guy. I'm sure he has a great product. But if his price was competitive with all the ebay chips, he would probably have a lot more loyal customers.

I think MarkD has the "best" one, but only if you have access to 93 octane gas. Otherwise you'll have to go with a 91 octane chip, and I believe it is a toss-up between his & Jim Conforti's.

Ok fine, I have a 'Proformance' ebay chip. Supposedly a copy of a dinan chip. All I can say about is it works. Closest thing I have to a dyno graph was posted here.

Seriously, come on man I'm fairly new to the site and there is so much info on chips its sick. If you have the money buy the real deal (Mark D) if not go on the bay and pick up a chip. I also have an ebay chip, and it works great. I wish I could afford a Mark D but I'm on a budget so thats how it goes. I hate to say this because you have already searched, but the search button does yield wonderful results. By the way the name of the chip was Euro Sports and it was 40 bucks and my car didn't explode.....yet

Well, I like the idea of the single thread. And while the search works, I do have some problems finding info I want.

However, since it's already been covered, maybe others could do like tjts1 and at least post a link to their thread covering the topic. That way those of us looking for the dyno charts don't have to read every thread concerning chips to find them.

of course i know there are plenty of threads out there that talk about the different chips but i thought it would be nice for everyone to have at least one thread that brings it all together.

i have searched, i have read, i have learned.

i have a pretty good idea of what chip I will be buying in the future, i was simply trying to help out the community, at least me and Ramblin MAn are on the same page lol

LOL no, I wouldn't. In fact Mark and I have had a discussion about just that. He defended the R&D cost standpoint and I said that's fine, but you recoup those costs and then price should go down. Or sell at volume like you suggest and recover the development costs slower. I've had a product I made copied and sold on ebay for less so I know exactly where he is coming from, but that is no excuse (to me) to sell something for more than it should sell for.

Pro Formance chip is the way I went, and the way I would go again. I gained a ton of power with it.
