Finally - a Stereo that looks OEM

And is awesome!

This thing has Europe-wide Nav, Bluetooth hands free phone control and iPod control. Also plays every audio format under the sun and best of all - looks like it's factory!

Becker Cascade 7944 - around £600-800 ($1000-$1200).

Maps are on CF card so CD is free for discs all the time.

Set the backlight to Amber and away we go!

$1000-$1200!  Better sound amazing.  It does look like a factory head unit, but seems a bit out of place in the 80's era dash.  Did you get some pimp upgraded speakers to go with it?

Is there a USB port on the front?

I like a lot. I think that is the best deck you can buy for the e30. A bit spendy for me though.

It does everything and has Europe-Wide colour navigation with a flash card slot to play audio from, plays any audio format and has full phone control via Bluetooth.

Lots os head units do this with flip-out screen etc and for around the same price but do they do it in a single DIN unit that looks understated and correct in an 80;s car?

No!

I have Alpine components in door builds powered by a Geneses Profile II amp.

That is one fine head unit.  And ONE FINE AMP!  Mmmmm.  Genesis.

I have to ask, what are the origins of the speaker mounts in the door pockets?  Those are superb!

They are made by a company called Audioscape here in England. Of all the door pods on the market these look the most OEM. They are fiberglass with heavy MDF backing. Mine will be trimmed ion leather to match my seats.

Wow - looks like a nice head unit, however, $1,000-$1,200 is a lot of US beans....

Those door panel speaker enclosures look cool too!

I like the door panel enclosures. Do you think they would work for a small sub? Looking on the audio scape web site the parts looks a bit different.

They won't accept a Sub. Unless you use shallow speakers you have to cut a hole into your door card and maybe even a bit of your inner door skin to accept a proper 6.5" speaker. Deeper cones = better sound.

I installed yesterday a classic 1988 Blaupunkt Boston to my car.No CD, no RDS or any other fancy functions just pure pure quality Blaupunkt sound :) MP3 tunes will be sent to the radio with special sender equipment in to which i can connect my Ipod.
Removed too new Grundig player from 1995 which even had RDS function. At the same time i removed huge speakers from rear and installed a new package self with tiny oem Blaupunk speakers. Going to change that package self to US spec one as soon i can finish my parts trade with JP.
Now i have a player i liked, had one back in 1989 when i had a new 325I :) Retro Rocks ;)

Yes, the best radios to install to look correct are late 80's to early 2000's Blaupunkts.  The best of them all being the Blaupunkt Tucson CM84 or it's equivalent in CD form.  The colors of the backlight is a perfect match, the display looks just like the OBC's and it looks period correct  They have cd changing control ability and a 1/8 auxillary input for ipods and are high power.   These radios were not made in China and are high quality not like todays models.  Theft is less likely with a tape player also.
