e28 motor mounts
« on: August 23, 2009, 01:53:26 PM »
so i picked up some e28 motor mounts and am in the process of installing them but now i can't get the pass side one to line up, it falls about 3/4inch to short to reaching the holes.. did i get the right mounts?

i ordered them off pelican parts part # 11-81-1-132-793-M61

if not then, am i doing something wrong to get them in there?

after fiddling with it and yelling at it i managed to get it all worked out, just had to loosen up the top bolts, get it fit in then tighten them all down

they are cheaper and stiffer than the m42 mount. It will increase vibration at idle within the cabin, but the engine feels more solid. Also for the OP, make sure you dremelled off the tabs and orient the mounts 180 degrees.

The tabs to mount the mounts are in the wrong location as to where the studs come out from the top and bottom of the e28 mount. So if you turn the mount 180 degrees on its axis, the studs will now be at the correct angle but the tab has to be remove to keep the mount flush with the subframe under the engine.

Here is a quick drawing, but not the best. the dash (-) is the tab.

Sorry I mislabled the mounts, swapp m42 for e28. It is a rough drawing but shows the studs are backwards and thats why the studs come off. My car profile on this forum has pictures of the swap.

I ran the E28 mounts for ~6 years.  The noise & vibration got pretty old, and after finishing up college & getting a job, I splurged & got some M42 stockers.  They are a TINY bit softer as far as engine movement goes, but damn the car is actually pleasant to ride in now.  I recommend M42 stockers these days, but hey different strokes for different folks!

I am not sure (but 90%) if you have used the right one. There are two types of e28 engine mounts as you can see below:

The right one is designed for compress and the left one is designed for decompress. Hope it helps.
