Turbo big enough for my M42?
« on: August 20, 2009, 10:49:40 AM »
Hi, I found a Garrett T04E , T3 flange with trim sizes as follows:
Compressor A/R: .42
Turbine A/R: .48

Is it going to be big enough, I want to boost only 6-7psi to start with on stock internals.

Thanks for feedbacks ;)

you say it's a t04e with t03 flange, so i think it's a t04e/t03... like bear says it's good for at least 10psi, under you will have an enormous lag! that is a turbine good for a 2500cc with 300hp not for a tiny 1.8 for making 190hp!

Yup, this one.
I know he says it's good for up to a 2.0l, but I don't usually just take what people say for granted :)
Asking people in the know is usually a good idea before buying ;)

I think it seems suited for my set up, as long as I'm not looking for extreme power, because of the housings sizes especially, but I can buy another once I rebuild the engine and go for more.

Anybody can confirm that will work fine for a 6-7 psi set up on stock internals?

I've also got one running 10PSI. Past 4500rpm, no one can hear you scream. :D

Alright, thanks guys, very helpful.
I'm going to pull the trigger on this, and especailly since it doesn't have an internal wastegate, I can buy a good quality Tial wastegate and set it exactly to the psi I want.
Should be nice :)

Thanks again!

What AFR's are you running @ full boost above 4500 RPM?  Around 12:1 or lower?

11.5 is the lowest you should realistically be seeing.

When you say you're running 10psi, is it on stock internals? that sounds a bit much for me, I'm shooting for 6psi to start and I'll see, but if I can do more, I will :) what do you guys think?

6psi is fine... lol but 10psi is better :)  I'm sitting at just over 9psi right now (166kpa) and at 7000rpm I am just about maxing my injectors.  Sooooo... I will leave the boost there until I get some bigger ones.

If you want to stay completely safe, just for peace of mind, stay around 8psi.  You'll never have to worry about anything as long as it is tuned properly.
