hmm, so how do you get the ring off the diff?
« on: July 29, 2006, 05:46:30 PM »
I got the diff out of the case and the pinion came out easy enough, but how do I get the ring gear off?  There are obviously a bunch of bolts securing it but even after removing them it wont budge.  Am I not hitting it hard enough or is there some hidden snap ring or something?

Thanks

well if you are putting your lsd on a 4.44 or something you would need to take it to a diff shop anyways to have them check the shimming?

i forgot about this.  For everyones information I just beat the crap out of it with a brass mallet.  it eventually came off and I sold the R&P to a 2002 racer for ~150

The propane torch rules all. Heat is your friend.

Yeah, I think it goes on by heating one and cooling the other.  Something like the teeth on the flywheel.  So heat the outside, not the inside, the outside expands, and it comes off easier (besides the heat breaking down any rust or gunk holding them together).

I remowed it withaut any heat, just screw bolts (leave some gap) and use hammer.
