For the engine in my post (http://www.m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8343) I was advised to use primaries of 45" long from head flange to start of collector for a 4→1 header.

It should fit the E36 but i have yet to try it on an E36 318is yet..

it's not a direct bolt on replacement... I have change the pipe from 2" to 2.5", feels better than when it was running 2"..
