Author Topic: I have a problem. CSB, Guibo, ??? (Read 2758 times)

Ok, So my car was making a knocking sound from under the car in 1st gear take offs. Found the problem to be a bad Center Support Bearing. So I replaced the Guibo, CSB and the guide. Test drove the car and all was great.... for a few days.

The problem is back and slight. But its getting worse by the drive.

I did not mark the driveshaft before disassembling. Is this my problem or is something else wrong? My subframe bushing have never been done as well as the engine and tranny mounts. I do have a poly diff bushing installed from the lsd install.

This sucks, I was going to install my turbo tomarrow but I cant imagine what more power would do to this problem, actually i can imagine and thats why its on hold till i figure out whats goin on.

Any help would be great.

Hopefully it's just a loose bolt. I've heard that the driveshafts are balanced, but I have no experience with them.

Could be a loose bolt. Did you load the CSB correctly? The DS are balanced so important they go back exactly.

I know i did not put the 2 shafts back exactly. But does this really matter. I mean if its so important why is there no line up marks from factory after balancing. Unless its something they found out later.

Load the CSB correctly?
All i did was install it. I made sure I seated the bearing on the shaft properly. As for Loading.... I dont know what you are asking... so probably not.

Yes, it matters how the 2 peices are aligned when they go back together (easy, just make a mark with whiteout).

Yes, you need to preload the CSB when installing it (push it forward about 4-6mm then tighten the bolts down)

You really should read a solid DIY, get a Bentley, or even ask before you dive into a project like that. It isn't particularly difficult, but there are things you really should know before just jumping right in. Those two simple things would have saved an irritating headache.

Not trying to be mean, and I hope I don't sound it, but I really like to see people ask questions on the forums. We all have to learn sometimes (hey I made a dumb mistake myself when installing my new driveshaft and had to take it all apart again!). This is what our great members are here for. We are all here for each other and more than willing to lend a hand.

So please ask before hand so you only have to do it once

So, do i need to re-align my DS?

Would a unballanced DS and a unloaded CSB cause the CSB to fail with in 200 miles or is something else wrong?

It will eventually fail prematurely, yes.

200 miles? Not sure. Depends on how unbalanced it is.

I know there is a way to realign the driveshafts, but I can't remember right now. I'll think of it.
