I'm re-doing the headliner, and i was wondering what glues you guys used to do yours if you have re-done them.

Contact cement is the usual glue for headliners

3m super 90. it's awesome stuff, just make sure the surfaces are clean and let it set for a day or so before putting it up.

Permatex has an adhesive made for headliners and fabric. I just bought some at Advance for $11 a can.

BTW, I got some nice headliner material at Jo-Ann Fabrics. They actually have a section for headliner, etc. It comes in 54" widths and it was about $15 per linear yard. I did my
'95 318is for $30 + a can and a half of adhesive.

Forgive my ignorance, but where do you use adhesive? The only time I've taken out a headliner in an E30, there was none there? Or is it a bit more "traditional" in the E36?

BTW, I used the 3M stuff back in my VW days and it works miracles.

On the e30 you use it along the edges where it tucks under the seals and around seams

Yeah, the contact cement for the e30 is around the sunroof & into the front & rear windows glass.

Cool, thanks guys. But I wouldn't use the 3M stuff there would I? The headliner is on my list of things to eventually do...

You can use whatever adhesive you prefer at those locations (Contact cement works great for this application), but the rest of the headliner isn't glued up it is held in place by tension.
