my knees are starting to hurt and im trying to get some exta leg room. anybody fabricate something to get the seat to go back farther?

people make custom mounts for recaro's, and vaders, so im sure it could be done quite easily.

I would imagine that using some barstock and new bolts it would be a relatively simple procedure to move the seat rearward a few inches. The problem with that is it also raises the seat some - as well as potentially making it more likely that the seat will detach in case of an accident, which would not be an ideal situation to say the least.

I'd guess that two pieces of flat steel with four holes each would work - two holes in each lined up with the original boltholes, then two more that line up with the seat holes. Original bolts/nuts in the original locations, then two bolts coming up through the barstock to the seat mount at the desired locations.

Um, how tall are you?  I'm 6'7" and have NEVER had a need for any more leg room in any of my BMWs.  Porsche's?  Yes.  As a matter of fact, I bought an E34 after knee surgery as it was the only car I could find that would let me have my legs completely straight.

Sorry to threadjack, but this has to be the first time I've ever heard of this being necessary.  I dunno, maybe I just like to be at the controls a bit more...

Yep, couple of pieces of bar stock with holes in the right places would do the trick...
I'm with sally, though... 6'3" here and definitely don't need extendo-bars.
