It depends on the year and coil configuration for your E36. Early E36 models have individual coil connectors from the ECU and the M42 E30 kit is plug and play. In 1994 BMW switched to a single round connector for the coil pack, and those cars require an additional wire harness to be PnP.
As Rob mentioned, we currently sell the PnP kit for the E30 and early E36 cars. We have sold hundreds of that kit to customers all over the world. It's also race proven as it's the kit we use on our E30 Turbo M42 powered BMWCCA club race car.
That's the kit you can currently order from our website and we will continue to offer for all E30 M42 and early E36 M42 powered cars.
We are getting ready to launch the E36 kit that covers the cars that require the custom coil wire harness that the later E36's (M42 and M44 powered) and the Z3's (M44 powered) require in order for the Coil-on-Plug kit to work for those cars.
That new kit will offer those customers all the same benefits of our current COP kit -- separate coils instead of a the BMW coil pack, no coil wires to foul over time, etc.
For those of you that will require this new kit please note that it will have a higher price due to the custom wiring harness we hand-build and test prior to each kit going out. The custom harness is built with all new BMW electrical parts and connectors.
Look for this new kit to be available on our website within the next few weeks.
