Quick Q: Anyone with these experience the following, and if so, recommended fix or direction to address?

Engine runs fine, on start and when warmed up, at idle or highway. CEL on idle. Gas pedal blip, goes away (but can and does come back). Stomp down test results in 1271 (ignition coil #1).

Other: All vacuum lines good, "mess under intake" mod done, ICV, AFM, TPS all functioning, no other issues.

Are you using the COP setup that this thread is about or still the stock setup?  If still stock then go ahead and get the COP setup, its awesome!  Otherwise, try swapping your number one coil with one of the other coils and see if the fault moves to another cylinder.  You might have a bad coil or a bad plug wire.

Sorry, should've mentioned it has this COP setup as well as a Mark D chip. (this is a recently acquired vehicle, PO installed). Looking at setup, I'm guessing it's not simply a matter of swapping coil #1 with another, I have to pull them all as one unit with the bracket, yes?

Again, engine appears to run 100% with no issues, other than the check engine light coming on at idle after it's warmed up. Goes away as soon as throttle is applied.

the COP system makes it easier to move coils around.  You dont need to remove the whole kit, you can unbolt just a coil (two allen bolts) With the COP setup you can just unbolt the coil, unplug it and move it to another cylinder rebolt it in and re plug it in to see if the fault follows the coil. (Dont move the harness, just the coil itself)  If you still get a miss on the same cylinder you know its something else (plug, compression, valve, injector etc)  The only problem is the cylinder one coil is modified to fit in the valve cover valley so that may make it harder to check a cyl 1 coil.

You could... swap the cylinder 1 coil to another cylinder (Say 3) and try and start it without any coil in cyl 1 (because the other coils wont fit without modification), I don't know if the car would run much on 3 cylinders but it should run enough to set a fault for misfire/s  Then if you stomp test again, you should get a fault for cyl 1 still (since you would have no coil there) but if you also get a fault for cyl 3 (or wherever you moved the old cyl 1 coil to) then you know you have a faulty coil.  Does this make sense?

Thanks much for the insight and suggestions. Have been in touch with PO to address as well. FWIW, code may be pointing to this, but symptoms seem to point to something vacuum related (in other words, engine runs fine and the CEL is intermittent @ warm idle only). Weird. And challenging. But hey, it's an M42! Thanks again.

I run this on our turbo powered M42 BMW CCA Club Race car.  It makes over 300 RWHP and we've not had problems with these coils at all.
