Destroyed e30 on MythBusters
« on: July 11, 2009, 08:10:09 PM »
During the demolition derby episode they dropped a perfectly good e30 from a crane and destroyed it. I love the show but needless to say i was pissed when they dropped it. Made me kinda sad......:( Wouldnt have been the case if the weight ratio wasnt 50/50. The car needed to land flat......oh well

The Fiat X-19. I'll bet there were a few of those enthusiasts cringing and crying in their oil puddles.

Cry me a river. I see a half a dozen totally intact E30s headed for the crusher every time I visit the JY. I would gladly donate my E30 would for such an epic death on TV. I especially enjoyed the 540i dropped from 4000 feet.

E30s are dime a dozen.

I thnk it's the lack of rust. I see a lot of nice cars in the JY. Most cars end up in the JY when they fail smog in California.

If they are junked for failing smog they should ship 'em East.  We have a market for them and willingness to fix them up :)

Truth

I just saw an E30 with 3.5L swap in the JY.
Probably got pulled over or smogged etc.

I wonder how much freight would be from CA?  I'll bet it'd be cheaper if three or four shipped at once.  For something like an e30 it wouldn't be worth it.

20 years ago I'd have driven them home myself.

I saw the Fiat X19 episode. I just shook my head. That car was a classic that should not have been destroyed. I'll be the first to say that there are plenty of them that should, but that one was in too nice shape.

But I guess the value of all the rest go up every time one gets destroyed. My best friend had one. I rememebr helping him work on it. I was holding the left rear corner off the ground while he moved the jack and started to lose my grip.(we were young and stupid) "IT'S SLIPPING!!! GET OUT!!!" he rolls out and I dropped it and nothing happened. It just sat there on three wheels like it was designed to do that. You would think with all the weight back there it would have dropped.

But anyway, Here in the damp mid west, there are plenty crush ready cars. come and get these and when you do bring some of those rust free cars to replace them with.

They should send them over to Ireland. All our e30s rot away :(
