I cut new holes and installed some old Pioneer 6 1/2" 3-ways I had.  Just that one change made a big difference.  It's tight on the deck there, bigger speakers will need to stand off the shelf or will need holes cut in the steel deck.

The OEM head unit will run 4 ohm speakers just fine, but I'm sure you'd want an amp & better head unit.  I think they're 5 1/2" stock, unless you have the premium system...that adds a tweeter in a raised grille.

You'll have to stand them off the deck then.  It really is tight back there, and the trunk springs are also in the way.  I'd be thinking hand-laid GRP would be the ticket, over some fiberboard.  Or just cut an arc of fiberboard, like an ellipsoid or eye shape that pushes the rear lip of the speaker high enough that the magnet clears the decking.

Make it all match with some new fabric, it'd look great & sound even better.

I just did $10 a piece junk yard 325is premium ones.  The holes for the wider speakers are already outlined so that part is easy.  The only mildly annoying thing is having to cut the parcel shelf itself just a bit to fit them in.  However, they sit and look- well they are- OEM.
