E36 supercharger... OEM???
« on: July 06, 2009, 03:30:31 PM »
Check out this ad...

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/cto/1252545465.html

I called the guy and he says that his E36 came with a supercharger from the factory... he even says its pushing about 8-10 psi. Can anyone confirm if the 318is was ever sold with a supercharger?

If your car had warp drive could you be there before you started?  I'd guess braking would be the trouble then.

Have to get me one of those bolt-on warp drive kits. :D

From the picture I'd say he has nuthin'.  Just 14.7 psi like the rest of us.  I'd like to see the M42 that'd do 3 seconds to 60.  It might be able to do that on a rolling start from 50!

Seriously, the only kit that looks stock on an e36 is the Downing Atlanta one.  I heard there was a kit from somebody like Mossleman?  That might be on there too.  But not stock.  BMW has never installed a supercharger on an engine IIRC.  Not even in the FW-190 or the 3.0 CSL racers.  All turbos.

The HIOP twin screw kit was a lot sleeper than Downing Atlanta ;)
You barely can see it... but it's super rare and pricey :D

That car is a totally fake and the owner of that car is lying.

So I emailed him again, and got this...

Quote
It is a german built m318is. not the u.s. version. it came stock with a 1.8L supercharged motor. Built for autobahn use. If you look it up by actual model and year BMW made 2,000 cars just like it. And the charger is listed in the haynes repair manual.

This dude is delusional...

I know BMW did hake a 4-door 318is with M bumpers, LTW wing, and splitters, but never did the M42 come with any form of boost from the factory.

Yes, that's the Class-II version. But the engine was a standard M42.

That guy needs money [/thread and his claims] :D
