Author Topic: ok, my battery weights as much as my tranny (Read 3024 times)

I had to put a rivet plate in my battery tray so it could hold the smaler then stock optima (orange top???) that came with the car. I compared the weight of the battery and the tranny, (just by picking them up) and they seem almost identicle. That said, has anyone gotten a smaller lighter battery?

Sedans seem to work better with 50 pounds in the right rear trunk. The weight helps the front rear balance more than the extra weight slows the car and also more than the effect of rear weight far from the polar moment of inertia. I helped build an SCCA American Sedan about five years ago and we moved the driver as far back and to the right as possible - including moving the driveshaft tunnel 2" to the right - pretend that last part was in an invisible font. The car was faster running 50 pounds heavy with the weight in the right rear trunk. I was glad to see the 318is's battery in the trunk. Better is weight off the front along with it. 52-54% rear is good. F1 cars are 70% rear.

I have a 12 lb motorcycle battery mounted up front where the verts have it stock.

i lost the weight of the Battery itself and the cable which is surprisingly heavy.
