Old original rear deck. Faded and gross. I decided to run the BMW Premium sound speakers so I found a good donor deck:

Nasty donor deck.

Stripped off the old fabric. I just ripped it up and peeled off any hanging tails of the understuff - tried to get it as smooth as possible so no lumps would show up under the new fabric.

Fabric on the deck. I bought 2 yards of black felt from walmart for around $6.50. 1 yard would have been enough but I'm glad I bought extra because I messed up on the first attempt. I used a can of 3M high strength spray glue - these are kind of expensive at $17 a can. It was tricky to get the fabric to go smooth all the way around the curved areas. I had to cut out some notches and match up the seams to get it to lay flat. This fabric works well to hide any mistakes. This felt is about 1/2 the thickness of the original stuff so the vents on the rear don't fit as snug. I noticed that worlduph.com has the OE deck fabric available by the yard.

Cut holes for the speakers and seatbelts. I left out the hole for the seatbelt anchor since soon I will only be seating 2 passengers in the rear...

Upclose shot of the fabric texture. Its not very plush but it looks good. Tends to pick up lint and stuff, but nothing that can't be cleaned.

I'm satisfied with the results. Took about an hour the get the fabric all smoothed out and touched up.
