Head Gasket blew Southeast MO help
« on: June 17, 2009, 10:00:58 PM »
Head Gasket blew 8 hours from home today. A shop pressure tested it and
diagnosed head gasket. Had to rent a truck and trailer to get it home.
I live about 3 hours south of st louis and 3 hours north of memphis about 70 miles west of I55.  I need some recommendations on maybe someone who can do the job. My mechanic has done a lot of suspension work, ac and assorted
other jobs but he doesnt want to tackle the head gasket.
Thanks for any referrals.

Thanks

You can do it...it's a nuts & bolts job, not too tough...just time-consuming.  We're here for you.

I'd estimate it'd cost you about $150 in gaskets & supplies.  Much more if the head warped.  You're actually saving money...if you can't finish it off, just tow it to a mechanic then.  He'll charge you what it'd normally cost...so even if you fail you're only a little behind the game.

Thanks for quick reply Dave im really thinking about tackling it. I did replace all of the hoses under the intake so im not totally helpless but this is somewhat of a bigger project. The
motor only uses 1 quart between changes and has about 220k on it.

I really hope they diagnosed me right. Heater does not blow warm even when full. I did
replace thermostat about 2 months ago.
