heater hoses
« on: June 08, 2009, 10:47:20 AM »
Just wanted to be sure everything is hoked up correct. Heater hoses were off when we got the car before rebuild. What are the correct connections for the heater hoses?

Thanks

Did that.... Show's inlet/outlet at the engine and another diagram show the two pipes from the heater rad but neither show the connection at the firewall.

Yes e30.. If you can just identify one of the connections at the firewall, that would help a bunch...

thanks

Wow is that ever a rat's nest.  More like a rat's maze!  I couldn't see much, but from what I can tell the top connection at the firewall goes down maybe 6-8" 90deg to an aluminum tee-fitting.  The larger straight section on that tee bends down and heads off 90deg deep under the intake, I'd assume to the end of the plastic coolant pipe on the driver's side.  The smaller hose meets a aluminum splitter y-fitting (valve?) on the lower hose.  I'd guess it's the lower connection on that fitting/valve.

The lower hose on the firewall meets that same split y-fitting...small hose on lower side comes from the upper hose, the other side twists around to the rear of the engine I'd assume.  It ends up higher than the upper fitting.  I've posted some pics, but they're not that helpful.  RealOEM isn't accurate on the aux pump, but the lower hose looks like this:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=AJ93&mospid=47318&btnr=64_0135&hg=64&fg=99
#12 is the tee fitting in the upper hose, 6 & 9 are the parts of the lower hose from the firewall.

Hoses from above, firewall to right, brake booster at bottom.

Hoses from passenger side #1

Hoses from passenger side #2

Coolant manifold, driver's side front of engine.

Top shot, wiring plenum, firewall at top, lower coolant hose detail.  Upper coolant hose is blurry on the extreme right.

Thanks guys.. Think I got it. Top hose goes to a T fitting (smaller hose going to the valve) and then to the plastic manifold on the drivers side. The lower hose goes to the valve and then to the rear of the engine..
Wanted to check because I remember someone saying you could have probs if the hoses aren't connected right..
